   At least one component not needed in the car headlight. A household bulb has to convert AC to DC. The car systems are DC all the way.

   Not necessarily !!
   There could be a DC/DC converter in order to increase and/or better regulate the voltage.
   This would have AC as an intermediate 'feature'.
