So maybe this service guy doesn't know that this car doesn't have an alternator. I asked him the 3 things they checked, and he said starter, alternator and 12v battery. I asked him if it was the traction battery that is getting replaced, he said it's called IMA battery. I'm not familiar with all the terms or acronyms, but just repeating what the guy said. He said it's rare that it gets replaced, something like once every 6 months.

Maybe they'll let me talk to the mechanic, not sure if they will though...

  3. Maybe the service guy also doesn’t know an IPU (Intelligent Power Unit) from an IMA. Ask him what IMA stands for.

Try to extract as much information from him as possible, regardless of how useless it may ultimately be.

Regarding the replacement being covered under warranty, about the only thing that would lead to it not being covered would be if you had exceeded the allotted mileage.

It doesn't sound like this service guy knows what he's talking about. An IMA battery was an NiMH battery that was part of Honda's single-motor "Integrated Motor Assist" hybrid system used before the i-MMD 2-motor/Li-Ion hybrid system used in the Clarity PHEV, the 3rd-gen Honda Insight, the current Accord Hybrid, and the CR-V Hybrid.

Will try, but that's what i got from him yesterday, maybe I'll know more when i get to pickup the car. Thanks for the warranty information, it really helped me to know that it was covered. I did also buy extended warranty (not everything, this one doesn't cover windshield or tires), supposedly will cover electronics though...

Thank you for the information maybe i can ask him again when i get the chance, I do feel like he's just saying stuff, I guess most advisors are not really that knowledgeable since they really only take the tickets.

  9. Thanks for the update. It would be interesting to know the details of the “internal failure”.

I'm not sure if the technician would actually know, since he had to call honda tech support. But I can ask my service advisor, let me try it see what he says.
