From 2008, when the modern electrification era began with the launch of the Tesla Roadster, through Sept. 30, 2018, U.S. sales of plug-in vehicles (plug-in hybrids and battery-electrics) stand at 956,348, Wards Intelligence data shows. Pre-2008 sales roughly number 2,200 units. BEVs make up more than half of the 2008-2018 figure. I think peak oil projections make more sense now, as what was required to diminish oil was an alternative not some supply crisis.
