No problem at all @Clarity_Newbie. You are completely right about what standards Honda is supposed to hold their dealer’s to. Unfortunately, dealers and their individual employees are quite fallible (or worse) as many posts have shown. As long as we are living in a fallen world, it’s wildly optimistic that every dealer will be excellent, trustworthy, and honest. Fortunately (or thank God, depending on your religious convictions), my local dealer delivers on all three. If they didn’t, I wouldn’t trust my car to them and would drive 20 miles to another dealer.
Glad it worked out for you. It is really a shame when folks buy a product then have to do all the leg work and ride herd on the dealers to make sure things get done properly...if at all. Good to hear you have options to choose from...I have a 150 mile round trip to the next nearest Honda dealer...and my local dealer is as shady and dishonest as they come. I didn't buy my car from them and they were the reason I almost didn't buy a Honda...shame really. Glad it worked out for you.
I guess that is where the term "its all in ones perspective" comes from...lol I have a 150 mile round trip drive to the next closest dealer...and my local dealer is as shady and dishonest as they come. I didn't buy my car from them and will only go to them as a last resort. I figured out how to take the A pillars off and fix the speaker rattles (kudos to the rattle thread for great info) myself. Came within a smidge of not buying the Clarity solely because of that dealership...now that's sad. No car manufacturer cares what their dealer network does to the consumer anymore. Those folks who have a great dealership to buy from and service their vehicles with are fortunate and I am glad that they do. Anywho...life goes on.
I am at the dealer for A1 service. I’ve asked them about HV Range Service Bulletin and they have no idea what it is. They kept asking me if I have problems with car. Also, they want to charge me $80 for the oil change and $40 for tire rotation. Is that ridiculous? Sent from my iPhone using Inside EVs
Your problem is that your HV range can display 1000 available miles on a car with an EPA range of 340 miles. The service bulletin covering that update is SB 18-069. If you have a full tank, you'll know the update was applied because the HV Range will no longer be 1000 miles, it will be 357 miles. If your tank isn't full, you may get a number less than 357 miles.
qtpie...The price is ridiculous only if you think so. The real question to me is...how many miles do think you have on the ICE? In my case, I run 70% EV and 30% ICE...so changing oil at 6000 odometer miles for me means changing the oil at 1800 miles on the ICE. Now that's ridiculous. Several of the local tire shops in my area rotate tires for $20 ($5 per tire) even if you didn't buy them there. So it might pay to ask around. Insightman answered the SB updates. Good luck.
Insightman, I am also trying to figure this out on my end. I purchased my Clarity last week. I sent the dealer an email asking for them to do it but they did not reply back to that, and I forgot to follow up on it when I picked up the car. I had little more than 1/4 tank of gas today, about to take a trip so I topped off and my battery was nearly full. My meter says combined 670 miles of range. I saw that and assumed right away that the SB was not applied. Do think so as well?
As a software engineer dealing with bugs everyday, if there is a number that will get higher every time the tank is filled up and it will be stuck at 1000 miles eventually, it has to be a bug.
Has anyone confirmed that 18-079 is a cumulative update? Since I've had the lights and the codes are still there even though the CEL is out, I figure it'll be a lot easier to get them to agree to install 079. If that takes care of 069 (which I also need) that'd be awesome.
They are separate updates. I had the 18-079 applied after I encountered the issue with multiple system messages. But my gas range on fill up is 800 miles. Hoping to actually have that fixed tomorrow. Sent from my iPhone using Inside EVs
doesn't surprise me they know nothing about these SBs. But $80 for oil change and $40 for tire rotation is highway robbery. Here in NJ, almost all dealers offer free oil change for life and add tire rotation for about $20..
I'm going this week on Thursday for the A01 service (second time since February... normal?) When I called about it I asked about the 18-069 and eventually they did say that applies to my car as well. hopefully it really does work. As much as I would like 1000 miles on 7 gallons of gas... I just don't think that's accurate lol
Went for my A01 service this past weekend and also had them update the software. I was told it could take upto 4-6 hours for the update. I was weary that they were going to update it correctly or not. When I got the call it was ready for pick up I opened the HondaLink app and there is was the beloved HV 357miles. It took about 3 hours for an oil change and the update. Pretty long if you ask me.
Did you note the mileage before and after to be sure the dealer staff didn't take it out for lunch lol? When I did 2 SB updates (18-069, 18-079), it took about 1 1/2 hour.
It all about if they're busy. When I took the car to the dealer for a complimentary detailing, aka car wash, they couldn't do that on that day as they're full at hands.
on the phone they told me about an hour and a half. I'm going to double check when I take it in and ask for a real estimate. I'll have about 2 hours. I won't have 3+ so if that's the case (meaning I assume they are busy) then I'll just do the A01 and come back for the range fix another time. I got the car in February and have been fine with the 1000 HV range nonsense, I'll be fine awhile longer.
For reference sake, I took my Clarity in last night to have the A 1 9 service and the HV Range Fix bulletin applied. The service took about an hour and a half in total. My HV Range showed 908 km going in and 575 km coming out which makes way more sense for a full tank of gas. So hopefully that issue is closed for my vehicle.
GV, that converts to same 357 miles for HV range on a full tank that us Yanks get down here in the USA after our 18-069 update. I think you can safely say the Canadian version (reported to be J-20-18) was installed correctly on your Clarity.
I got the range fix yesterday when I went in for A01 service. I was there about 2 hours so not too bad The change was noticeable immediately. I got there with an HV range of 600+ and pull out of the Honda lot with 210. I noticed the MPG calculator was reset Also worth noting It took me about an hour to get home and that was pure ice as I had driven a lot at work and burned through the battery. I just looked and according to the Honda link app my battery of 100% saysy range is 40 miles. I assume the milage predictors we’re reset too. Typically I get a reported range in the low 50s. I’ll be interesting to see if that number rises again, or was it too artificially inflated.
