After a lot of doubt as to whether this car was going to actually get delivered in time for the rebates, I am glad to have received my Clarity today. Touring - Grey Ordered end of June, delivered today.
I'd love to know what's been going on in the cloaked-in-secrecy offices of Honda Canada to get you your Clarity. Was there desperate urgency with upper management working long hours, calling in favors (er, favours) to expedite late-arriving shipments to their Ontario destinations? Or was there a laissez-faire attitude in those offices, with experienced staff knowing the job will get done just in time to serve the anxious rebate seekers even though with a little more effort the cars could have been delivered weeks earlier? And what are the water-cooler jokes around the Honda Canada offices regarding the base Clarity models? "What's Doug Ford driving these days? I dunno, let's send him a base Clarity--we've got hundreds of them with discharged batteries gathering dust on the back lot in Vancouver."
Ontario AVAILABLE WITH REBATE!!!! " Hey John, Hope things are going well. I know you’re “in the loop” so I thought I’d let you know that we’ve got a Clarity Touring like yours available. It still qualifies for the rebate too. Know of anybody that needs or wants one before the rebate expires? Wow, great. My friend's Clarity got cancelled by Barrhaven Honda. Will give Scott a call and see if my friend still want one
When I placed my order, I was told the car was already ordered by the dealership, on the way and not yet sold. It sounded a bit surprising since I had called so many other dealerships with no luck (most saying no new cars until 2019) but I went with it anyway and it turned into a positive experience in the end.
I panicked at the end of May when it looked like the Tories would win in Ontario. My local dealer said it would be at least 6 months before we'd get one. I took one last look at autotrader.ca and found two white Tourings in Rouyn Noranda, Quebec. One had more kms on it than would qualify us for a rebate. So we bought the other one. Sight unseen. (We'd had the VERY short test drive at plugndrive.ca.) We got the car delivered to Toronto on a flatbed. We've driven it all summer. But it was tense for a few weeks.
My situation was very similar. I was shocked to find a Clarity that was available, especially in the colour and model I wanted, and kept waiting for the bad news call that I wasn't going to get it. But after a wait of about a month, everything worked out great and it was a great experience, and it's sitting in my driveway now. When I asked how I was so lucky to get one, they told me that the person who ordered it didn't want to wait for it to arrive any longer.
Does anyone have any other information on a Clarity that might be available? I have had my February order for a touring cancelled. My dealer tried to get one that randomly got delivered to another dealer, but it seems Honda dealers don’t play nice with each other.
Can you go to the other dealer and buy it there? Before I got my Clarity, I inquired about a Sonata with the rebate and was told that they can't dealer trade and have it qualify because of the rule that it has to be ordered by the dealership prior to July 10 to qualify. Don't know if that is true or not but it's worth being cautious about. Your dealer can't begrudge you buying it elsewhere if you find it if they can't supply it themselves. You can still Service it there.
I could now, as the deal is off, but you can’t negotiate with another dealer if you have a contract. OMVIC actually sully forbids other dealers f on dealing with you. I tried to look at a BMW i3 and when I mentioned that I still had a contract for the Clarity he wouldn’t talk any more other than to tell me he had one in stock. Dealer told me to buy it from them, but it’s gon now. I wanted them to get it to be sure that I get the rebate.
If you can find another Clarity at a dealer's lot and they ordered it before that July date then you can buy it with the $13k rebate. My friend bought the car John T mentioned earlier and she got the rebated deducted from the price directly by the dealer
Meadowvale Honda in greater Mississauga is having a Base Clarity on Autotrader http://www.autotrader.ca/a/Honda/Clarity+Plug-In+Hybrid/Mississauga/Ontario/5_40399428_ON20090202102556090/?mnclk=1&showVs=1
Wow! Power seats and power doors! This is one very special Canadian base model Clarity Plug-In Hybrid.
I was told my order at whitby Honda will be cancelled. I ordered a base at Mar 20th. Sales said we can order 2019 model without rebate.
August numbers are out. Down again to 88 Appears that no effort has been made to fill the outstanding orders, unlike other car companies, as I have not seen any new cars show up for over two weeks!
Doubt anyone received a car as no cars have appeared on dealer sites since the middle of August. That would mean the last shipment left Japan in the 3rd week of July. Looks like Honda Japan cut off shipments a couple of weeks after the July 11th Ontario rebate cancellation. 2018 model shipments have continued to the USA, but Canada was left with lots of outstanding orders with Honda having no intention and making no attempt to fill the orders. Very disappointing to be left with nothing after waiting 6 months for my car!
