Mydash423, you might want to check with your insurance. Many states have required that car insurance companies cover damages to windshields with no deductible. I know KY works that way. This way you can use the dealer and have peace of mind that they won’t mess up the sensors for the Honda Sense. Hope that can work out for you.I have a big crack in my windshield of my Clarity. I called the dealer and they are quoting $1025 for part and $250 for labor for replacement! Is it ok to use non-OEM windshield for clarity? I'm worried because of Honda sensing.
My understanding is that all the windows in the Clarity are made of a special laminated sound-insulated glass. You can see that when you open the doors look at the edges. This type of glass is generally found only on the most high end luxury and sports cars. In other words, fancy glass means very high prices. It probably won't be a good idea to replace it with a non-OEM glass, if you can even find it. Much of the materials to build the Clarity are ultra-premium (i.e., found only in cars costing at twice as much) so I fear that our insurance rates will go up once a bunch of insurance claims are made.I have a big crack in my windshield of my Clarity. I used to work for a windshield repair company back in the day. Replacement cost comes down to supply and demand.
In new vehicles there is sometimes little to no supply of OEM glass for a particular window of a vehicle. At least for a while.
For example, when the first Ford Escape came out, that little triangular window in the side rears used to cost over $4,000CDN for about 8 months after the Escape was released. They rarely broke so nobody manufactured spares.
We always laughed when a customer would come in saying they broke the tiny window to get their keys locked in the car because they didn’t want to break a big window that would be ‘expensive to replace’. Lol. For comparison, the driver and passenger side windows were $120 to replace + labour because we could grab a non-Escape window that had the exact same specs.

Is Safelite saying they're going to install a windshield made by someone other than Honda? I'd be surprised if there is an alternative supplier of an acoustic-glass windshield for this rather new, low-production vehicle. So this turned into the worst soap opera ever. Car windshield still not fixed. Honda said their inspector found a point of impact and are not responsible after all. This, after the car sat their at their service department for 4 days. Back to Safelite. Safelite says they can't use Honda's parts, they have to order it themselves. HUH??? So then they drop the ball for another couple of days. Today, we spoke to the parts manager and he said it may not be in till next week but he will try to expedite it. Now we are raising hell with Alllstate about this since they are partners. Also requesting a rental. This is week 3 we're going on. Stay tuned.
I just had a large object strike and break my windshield. When my insurance company checked, they said there were no windshields made by someone other than Honda. The Honda dealer had to order one and told me there was only one available in the US and I guess they had it shipped to them because I am scheduled to have it replaced on July 31. I have $500 deductible insurance and was told the windshield with parts and labor and with labor to recalibrate the camera behind the windshield comes to almost $1900. So good luck with your replacement. Is Safelite saying they're going to install a windshield made by someone other than Honda? Yes, in some states. Not mine.Isn't glass usually covered under comprehensive coverage?
I thought the comprehensive deductible was small or zero.
Have to check.
