Yea I'm just projecting that there will be trouble. There are lots of people reporting this issue. It's hard to deny that it's a problem. I'll report what happens after Friday.

Sounds like some of the dealerships out there are not being very helpful. So far I’ve not seen any paperwork on the reduction gearbox fault. When they first checked the vehicle they told me there were no fault codes in the electric/electronic systems. To me that makes sense as the fault is clearly a mechanical one. It was Hyundai’s tech support people that gave them the go ahead to change the assy.
I maybe fortunate that I have had a good relationship with this dealership over the years, so they were willing to take my complaint at face value.
Again, I hope people start listening to you and give you the support you deserve, these are not cheap cars!

I have yet to see ANY paperwork attachment to do with a Hyundai warranty repair . Has anyone ever had to sign anything? Seems all verbal so far. Maybe this is the way Hyundai Corp works for warranty issues...which is OK as long as the repair fixes the problem, just not too informative.
The oil in these reduction gearboxes should be changed at around 196,000km which effectively makes them ‘sealed for life’ units. The technician told me that the oil in my original gearbox was black. Something I would not expect in a gearbox of less than 15,000km, the second unit (apparently new, although I didn’t see it) had metal chunks in the oil. Both of these instances along with many other reported transmission issues should be making Hyundai sit up and take notice.
I was shown the new gearbox before it was fitted, the reduction gear assy comes complete with the differential. Perhaps the problem lies with the diff. Just a thought.

^^^ rather bewildering, I wonder who actually manufactures these for Hyundai
and in addition is the driveshaft between the motor and the gearbox included as part of the motor or gearbox assembly or separate completely as a defect here may cause pre-mature wear of the new gearbox.

Some years back, Hyundai replaced the transmission on my Sante Fe Limited under warranty. There was definitely paperwork which needed to be signed before they turned the car back over to me.

I am now 1000 kms since Hyundai replaced the Traction Motor Assembly and the clicking has not returned. Here are the descriptions and what I think are the part numbers as per the printed invoice I requested from my dealership.
"Engine - replace Traction Motor Assembly (365000E701) for Clicking Noise as per HYTAC 4721 W 4.90
Bolt - Flange (1140412756P)
4850 abnormal noise 36500R1H, N29, C11 4.90 confirmed customer complaint. Replaced Traction Motor Assy as per HYTAC for abnormal clicking noise. Test drove vehicle. Noise now gone, all OK."

Thanks for the update. Looks like they replaced your motor! I will take this evidence to hyundai. They want to replace my gearbox AGAIN.

Blakehaas, so far so good on the second replacement gear reduction unit. I did have a little panic attack when I thought I heard the noise again. I went straight to the dealership to warn them off. I’ve not heard the noise again (I’ve done about 1500km since), I’m beginning to wonder if all I heard was road noise from the winter tires I’d just refitted. Anyway, I’ll keep you guys posted if there are any other developments.
I've taken mine in this past Saturday. The dealership did not call today with updates, so I called them. They said they still haven't figured it out and are in contact with Hyundai tech support. Do you have any more information off the invoice regarding the diagnosis process/repairs? I'm trying to gather as much information as possible so my car isn't just sitting there for weeks.

The question is also why it only happens on certain cars. Stageshoot in the UK has over 50k miles with no issues. I have 16500 right now with no issues.
Installing a new transmission without a design change is doomed to repeat the problem..
Hi all. I'm getting ready to purchase a 2020 (a MD dealer might have one in a few weeks) and was wondering if anyone can gauge how many of the folks here in the forum are having problems like this. I can't really tell if this is a systemic problem or not. Doesn't seem to be too much traffic on the FB group about it. I'm just worried it might be too soon to buy this car. Any thoughts?

If you bought a 2019 at any point it seems the same unrevised components were used throughout the model year, even then the problem occurrence is not universal, plenty of 2019 model owners are not having problems. Its unclear if its a substandard/poorly engineered component failure or assembly deficiency. Its also unclear despite motor revisions if and when any corrective measures to 2020 models have been applied and honestly there are not enough 2020 owners reporting in yet to give you any statistically appreciable idea of resolution.
