Clarity regen paddles vs braking

I've been looking for information on the differences between the regen paddles and braking for battery recharging. Are the paddles more effective than simply braking? Do the regen paddles cause the brake lights to come on? If the brake lights do not come on has this been an issue for anyone in traffic as far as following vehicles not noticing your deceleration? Thanks!
 
The brake light only come on when you select full regen on the paddles. It is hard to say if the paddles give you any kind of extra regen compared to the brake pedal, but I try to use the paddles anyway. I figure Honda included them for a reason.

Can you confirm that the brake lights do come on with level 4 regen? I've been meaning to test this, but I thought that it didn't.

I also try to use the regen paddles as much as possible before employing the brake pedal, mainly because I want to maximize regen to the batteries before allowing the physical brakes to waste my energy away. :P Honda engineered the brake system very well IMO; I can't tell when the physical brakes kick in when I depress the pedal.

Thank you for the info, I also was wondering about this. I'd always "touch" the brake pedal first to warn those following that I was slowing down.
