Small issues/quirks

So here’s a new one! It might be more than “minor” and may require its own post but we’ll start here.

So I get into my car last night - turn it on as per usual. My gauge cluster is blank. The only metrics I see are the power, range and that my doors are open. But the “open door” image is frozen on the screen. I have no speed or anything. The main circular screen is completely blank. I turned the car off and back on with no change - screen still blank. I drove about 15km with no speed indication. Thankfully the HUD was fully functional. I tried changing the driving mode - nothing! I got to my destination, shut the car off and came back to it about 2 hours later and it was working as per normal. Has anyone else experienced this?

Here’s a quick video taken while I was driving.

Same thing happened to me this morning I drove with the HUD on didn't panic and stopped to shop came out and it fixed itself anyone else I made a note and will talk to my dealer soon. Has it been confirms that it is the rear hatch????

No confirmation at all of what is going on. Just a query of the hatch not closing completely and in the UK they found the stoppers weren't screwed down tightly causing the door not closing to cause issues.

I don’t think we will have any true confirmation until it happens to a lot more people and we have Hyundai shed some light on the issue. If it’s not a physical issue, which frankly I don’t believe it is. Because all that changes in the situation is you turned the power off to the car for a short period of time.
If you closed the truck and the message went away and gauge cluster came back - that’s a different story.

Maybe someone will have the time/energy to take it into Hyundai and have them take a proper look. I just really don’t have the time unfortunately.

I didn’t finish my thought! It’s been a long day lol

If it’s not a physical issue, then a simple software update should do the trick! We just need to wait 6 months for Hyundai to develop and release it! :P

One of the menus on the little info display contains a compass and nothing else. I wish they would add a clock to the choices, as an alternative to the screensaver, so the big screen could be turned off completely.

Otherwise the car is perfect. I have to believe that, after spending my child's inheritance on it. ;-)

In your settings on radio or whatever on the top right there is a setting to turn off the display hit that and the screen goes black with a big clock and the day the radio still works and you can change stations via the steering wheel controls

Is anyone else's center console hatch-thing really hard to open sometimes? I'm referring to the little door where your phone and wireless charger live.
I like to keep mine closed as to avoid phone distractions but I have to press it 4-5-6 times before it opens. I haven't found "the trick" that works yet. I've pressed hard in the middle, softly in the middle, hard and softly on the edges, quickly, slowly etc. it just doesn't seem to matter, it's hit or miss. Wondering if I just got a faulty hatch and should take it in for replacement. It's been like this since day one - I remember sitting in the car with the dealer and going over some of the features and even he had to press it 4 or 5 times to open.

Our is very soft touch. The only time it was hard was we had some stuff crammed in their with the phone and a usb cable.

As I think I've stated twice now, I'm proposing a clock on the dashboard as an alternative to the screensaver.

Make sure nothing is in the way of the lid. I had a problem when my USB cable got into the little crack where the lid goes into when you push it down.

I put a cable tie around my USB cable so it's nicely curled up and doesn't interfere with the lid. Opens nicely and easily.

Ok! I’m going to try this. It’s really annoying. You’d think with all of the space in the bridge console they’d make it like a few inches bigger.

I have had three times when the open hatch red light came on due to a partially closed hatch. I see four stoppers, but they appear to be push in. i.e. there were no screws to tighten. Am I missing something? Anyone have a pic of the stoppers that need to be tightened? Thanks.

Nevermind. ;). I was thinking of old school screws. The problem appeared to be the two outboard stoppers on the hatch. One was solid rubber along the side, but the other had two "cuts" in the rubber close to the hatch. Those cuts were like screw threads. So I twisted the one until the two cuts disappeared. Now both stoppers are of the same length and no "cuts" appear. Door closes great without having to slam it, and the gap between the hatch and car appears to have tightened. Yay.

First day with my new Kona EV. Found my first annoyance. Lol. I have a Samsung Galaxy S8. Normal size - not the plus. It fits nicely in the centre console and takes advantage of the Qi wireless charging. Unless you want to have it plugged into the car with USB C to take advantage of Android Auto. Now the cable sticking out of the bottom makes the phone too long to lay flat inside the console. Sure, the cable is now charging the phone rather than the Qi pad but what a gross oversight! My phone is not massive - just an average size! With the cable plugged in, I can't actually close that centre console compartment. Anyhow... I think there's enough room between the bottom of the phone and the space in the console for a right-angled USB cable. I've ordered one and will let you know if it works. But holy crap - what an oversight.

I've been searching for a low profile connector for the same reason. Didn't know about right angle ones. I'll seek it out. Pixel 3 XL. I have to cram the cable to close the door. Flexing it like that's going to break the cable in no time.

Yeah, look what was in the mail today!
Although my phone is not as big, but I had to bend the normal connector quite a bit.1553394413737.webp

The one quirky thing that I don't care for is the auto hold not being default and having to set it each time you start the car. HOWEVER, that may be a blessing as I find once you put the auto hold on backing up is a herky jerky experience. I have to really watch how much gas I apply as I am backing out of the garage as it sort of backs up with a burst of speed. I have learned to leave the auto hold off until I am backed right out of the garage.

That's weird. I'm pretty sure my auto hold has been on since I pushed the button a month ago.
