Smart Cruise Ctrl Conditions Not Met

I went on a drive today to another town, ~120km away. I had considerable difficulty getting SCC to engage; I kept getting a warning chime and a circle with a line through it icon displaying when trying to turn cruise on. The message displayed was "Smart Cruise Ctrl Conditions Not Met". I was going 95km/h+, would press "Cruise", then the down button for "Set" and this would happen, over and over. Roads were bare and dry, relatively flat, lane lines clearly visible (and acknowledged by the car - ALKA worked fine). Sometimes a car was in front of me when trying, sometimes not. I tried again about 10 minutes later and it worked right away. Then on the trip back the same problem occurred. I looked in the manual quickly and didn't see this error mentioned in the smart cruise control section. Anyone else encounter this? Any thoughts on the problem?

My husband has experienced this a few times, but he thinks it is operator error. He thinks there is a possibility that he is pressing the down set button and he may possibly be pressing the cancel button at the same time(sort of a pinching motion). He has a neurological condition called fumble fingers.
 
I’ve had this happen a couple times as well on my way to work in the AM. I can’t figure out what I was doing wrong. I thought maybe it was due to speed as I was around 110 km/hr so I slowed to 90 and that didn’t seem to help. If anyone can figure this out I’d love to hear it as it is a concern for me if there is something wrong with the car’s software. Like others have said it worked a few mins later.

i just read the section in the manual and the only thing that jumps out is the system requirement to push the brake pedal at least once after power on. You would think that would be the case 99% of the time but perhaps the system is picky about the brake operation. In any case it might be worthwhile seeing if a deliberate brake press is required to get SCC to operate properly. I couldn’t find anything in the manual about the “conditions not met” warning.

Worth trying. We will report back on success or failure.
 
After playing around a bit with the switches I'm confused. I thought I had read that SCC was engaged by holding Resume or Set, but when I do this I get the error. Then I realized that SCC is on by default, and on rechecking the manual I see that you can switch to regular CC, or back to SCC, by holding down the distance button.
 
My apologies, I misunderstood the OP. This has nothing to do with CC vs. SCC.

I did discover that I was getting the error when traction control was turned off and I attempted to set the speed.
 
No issues with SCC yesterday. I don't know if it had anything to do with touching the brake pedal or not, but can't see not having done that at any point before getting on the highway, as even just backing out of the driveway I'd use the brakes in order to shift into Drive. Maybe it's using them after putting it into Drive? I do tend to use the flappy paddles to brake most of the time (which doesn't work when reversing).

You can't use the paddles when using cruise control, but you probably didn't mean you were using the paddles while in cruise control?

That's correct, I meant leading up to getting to the highway where I then tried using cruise control. Trying to remember whether I would have actually used the brake (other than "shifting" from Reverse to Drive), but the brain didn't retain that information.

I am still perfecting the one paddle driving. So far it isn't smooth all the time, but I'm getting there. I haven't tried the paddle when backing up, but I note you say it doesn't work in that situation which is good to know. My husband just read if the Kona has brake failure, you pull up on the emergency brake switch and keep pulling it up until you stop. I wouldn't have thought of doing that--not sure what I would have done since it isn't your standard emergency brake design. My husband is still working on SCC. lol
 
I tried SCC this morning on the way to work and had the same error, so I immediately tapped the brake and tried again. It worked! You must be right about the brakes needing to have been used prior to enabling SCC. Thanks :)

The only time I've had this happen was when I was *thinking* I was pressing set but was actually erroneously pressing *set/Resume* by accident.
Don't think this helps much but my 2 cents.
 
Ok, another wrinkle in this. Happened again today on my way home from work, so I tapped the brakes and all worked properly. However, I had definitely used the brakes numerous times getting to the highway. Maybe it's within a certain time period or distance that you must have used the brakes before you can use SCC.

After praising the nightime performance of the Smart LKA, today the LKA is turning on and off willy-nilly. I can't really see that I've changed anything. In fact I know I haven't. I read the manual to refresh myself about how it works but I have some trouble because I ' m colour blind and all these white/green/red signs all look similar to me. Difficult to troubleshoot.

Do you have both LKA and Active LKA checked?

Yes. As I said, it's odd because I've changed nothing since the day I got the car. Only once did I get the conditions not met notice. The rest of the time it just looks greyed out on the heads up and chooses not to beep or take the wheel when I'm close to the lines. We'll see, I guess.

We have scrolled through the features so many times that I know on occasion I have unchecked something accidentally. So I just wondered about that.

Oh ya, second-guessing is second nature! I know the feeling. But I'm sure this time. I actually just drove home at dusk and it worked flawlessly again. I think that the city streets I was driving on we're simply in bad repair with crappy lines.
