Curious as I've always resented the 'warranty' because it meant I couldn't make mods until it was over. I do buy my own maintenance manuals(*) and revel in doing the work. For example:
  • Adding 1.1 kW inverter to 2003 Prius
  • Adding 2.5 kW inverter to 2010 Prius
  • Optimizing tires on 2003 Prius, not the standard size
  • Microcontroller for 2003 Prius to reduce cold weather running of engine
  • Replacing transmission vent plug with tubing to air cleaner, clean side
  • Upgrading traction battery to use more modern modules
  • Verified we can rehydrate Prius modules and achieve greater than new capacity
  • Replaced rear view mirror with combined GPS and rear camera
  • Used shims to achieve perfect rear wheel camber and toe
  • Used camber bolts to achieve perfect front wheel camber
  • Replaced backup light with one that has an audio beep
  • Replaced passenger seat with a 'nap' board
  • Added 2" receiver hitches to every car
  • Multi-year, multi-car transmission oil study
  • Plotted the mph vs MPG for every car
  • Performed 'out of gas' study on every car we've owned
  • Drive using dynamic cruise control on every car in all traffic
  • Conducted vortex generator study of 2003 Prius (sedan body)
  • Used pressure caps on cars without tire pressure sensors
  • Towed 2,000 lbs of trailer and load 600 miles through a Nor'Eastener
  • Extensive use of OBD diagnostic interfaces
  • Modified BMW to use European style settings
  • . . .

That's an impressive list! I think you would have gotten along great with my grandpa (RIP), who built his own metal-working shop, and would far rather fix an old machine to keep it running than buy a new one. He could make replacement parts right in his shop, and I learned to run his giant metal-working lathe there. Grandpa got his start in business by building his own water well drilling rig, and hiring his services out.

The Model 3 as configured fully meets our requirements and exceeds the Prius Prime it is replacing. The estimated $25k net purchase also resets the warranty clock for a Model 3 with 1.7 years of infantile problem resolution.

If 3 years from now the Model Y exceeds the 2014 BMW, we’ll decide then. But I have to deal with the problems found each dawn.

Calm. I have no expectation except possibly to take delivery by June 30, 2019. If before then, no problem. I’d like delivery before July 1, 2019 BUT if later, no problem either. I am retired.

I have found Tesla sales to be open and dealing with the same facts and data. No disappointment on my side and I’m the buyer ‘with the gold.’

Well that's good news as far as I can see. That makes it more likely they are producing everything they can right now.

You better close out your short position.
 
The good news is I adjusted my holdings:
  • 45% - KL gold mining
  • 55% - TSLA stock (just missed the $270 shares)
