Taking Pre-Orders in Canada

There are a couple of things I want out of this car after my current one which is a 2012: A quiet ride and a smooth ride. I am tired of squeaks, rattles and shaking. Drives me nuts. I'm hoping that a newer car provides some relief but also have high hopes for the calm of an ev drive train and the smoothness of the independent rear suspension. Mine is torsion bar and it's rough. One of the reasons I've resisted going with the Bolt.

I really liked the way the Bolt drove although it was a brief test with a salesperson aboard. The deal breaker for me was the lack of Nav in the premium package. They have Android Auto, but that's a major pain in the arse having to be plugged in to use NAV. Not to mention how much damage you are doing to your phones jack, especially when someone plugs the micro-usb upside down. Been there done that.

The heads up display on the Kona gives very useful directional and distance data from the native SD nav system. I tried Google Maps and did not notice and directional information conveyed there. That one feature makes me prefer the built in NAV. I would love to see better integration of these systems in a software update.

Crazy! Mine had the exact same issue with the trunk! They had to adjust the little rubber stroppers on the latch. My sales person messaged me today and told me that he just had his second delivery and it too had the same “open hatch” warning issue. Seems like it might be more wide-spread than I thought!

On the UK forum they had a big discussion on the back hatch saying "not closed" , and the fix is just screwing in the little stoppers more. I think they even recalled them to do this as the not closed light was on for so many.

Lots of Lower Mainland dealers are starting to get their stock in CJC, I would call your dealer and get an update!!
 
I watched Tesla Bjorn Drive a Kona in snowy weather. Looks like the charge door might be a problem and can get iced up and also the charging connector can get some snow or ice inside potentially making a poor connection. I did my own test, we had snow in the lower mainland today, but a few flurries doesn’t really count.

My plan is probably to upgrade in 3 years when I expect there will be way more cars to choose from and batteries will be much better. I too got the 8 year extended warranty.
I honestly wasn’t planning on it but ended up getting a great deal. When I went in to sign the paperwork they offered it to me for $2800. I said no thank you. The business manager called me back about two hours later saying once I’d left saying pretty much “listen, this is what we’re willing to do” and offered it to my for $2400. I told her I legitimately wasn’t interested and that it wasn’t about the cost. She said no problem and I thought that was the end of it.

I was due to pick up my Kona 2 days later and the day before she called me yet again. She mentioned that this was the first Ontario Kona officially being sold and the first in their dealership as well. She said she would really like to make sure everything is smooth for me and ultimately offered the warranty to my for $1900. For nearly $1000 off, I finally agreed.

It seems pretty good. It covered all the stuff that the 8 year battery/motor warranty doesn’t including tires, electronics, keys, leather/upholstery etc. As someone mentioned before. If you use the warranty just once, it’ll pay for itself. And if you don’t use it - you get to transfer it to another vehicle or use the money towards service credits.

Apparently Hyundai is already working on a fix for this. I’ve had this issue driving through a blizzard recently. A simple gasket around the charge door would solve this.

Yup, that’s precisely what my dealer did. Just screwed them in a little more. I might do it a little more because it’s still a more form close than I’d like on a brand new car.

I had snow in the charge port. I've never had the door freeze shut - even during an hour of blizzard driving in -30 degree temps. But there was a significant amount of snow in the charge port. Thankfully they have the caps on the actual charge connectors or I'm sure there'd be a much larger problem at hand.

I'm sure Hyundai's going to release a simple gasket that's affixed to the charge port door. That would prevent water and snow from getting in.

LOL is this for real or a poke at Hyundai's delivery history?
I don't think summer's going to be a problem, water wont hurt it with the caps on. But to have it in time for next winter would be okay.

If they did the proper due diligence in the engineering of the charge-port door. They could have saved material in those caps and just installed a seal around the door. If the door is water-tight, there's no need for the plastic caps. Like the Tesla's and other brands that have water-tight charge port doors.

After seeing the Kona EV online and reading about them in forums, I decided to go to my local dealership here in Halifax, N.S. and ask when we will see them here in the East. According to the salesman, in around 1-2 months is when they will start to roll out here.
 
Has anyone else found these forums behaving oddly? I get notifications of new posts via email but often find the messages are not posted in the forums. CJC's message last night, for example, is visible to me as a notification sent after 10pm last night but my comment of 3:46pm yesterday is the last one posted in the forum.
 
CJC, my blood would be boiling if I found out I was waiting for nothing. I spotted the car you are talking about during idle browsing yesterday and wondered what the hell was going on with you waiting. It's just incomprehensible how stupid these dealers can be!

CJC had made a post, which then caused you to receive a notification. They then deleted it, which is why it seems like a ghost post. This happens from time to time.
