I think Honda does it on purpose to make you want to drive as many miles as possible in ev mode.

Does everyone get this high rev when the ice kicks in? I am trying to decide if I need to take it in for service. I used a loaner for several days and never noticed this, but the car I purchased does it a lot when the battery is drained. It's very annoying, especially when I'm going 20 and am barely touching the accelerator.
I notice that too when I've used up all the EV power.
Does it seem to be normal behavior to you? I can't decide whether to have service look at it.

I had the ICE kick on this morning barely a block from my house, completely full charge, with me barely pressing the accelerator. If it starts happening repeatedly I'll start to wonder, but this is the first time for no apparent reason.

When we run out of battery power and the ICE kicks in, it’s really not that bad at all on the highway. In fact it’s sometimes hard to pick up.
However, when we were experiencing single digit temps, the ICE did have a tendency to be noisy. I think it’s also easier to hear the ICE when you accelerate from a stop light.

My experience has been like Ken's - we don't suffer from extreme cold out here in West Texas, so can't speak to that, and I've not been down in the single digits on EV range since we first picked it up, when we thought the engine was going to burst out of the hood it was straining so hard until it built up to 12 EV, then it settled down to it's normal quiet self.
I'm still concerned about it locking into HV after pushing the accelerator past the detent (which, BTW, on mine is not much of noticeable bump) until you actually shut the car off and restart.

Most of you already know this because you've owned other hybrid/phev/bev cars (I assume the following is true for all of them) but until the Clarity I was pretty old school. At the end of each drive: shift to Park, set the parking brake, turn off the engine. I did these 3 steps in order for the Clarity like my other cars. Today, I hit the off button first accidentally and noticed that the car goes automatically into Park. You can set the parking brake before or after. I know it's not a big deal, but to me, anytime you can save a step for something you do over and over, it's a plus!

The only time I use the real physical brakes (circled P button) when parking is on a hill (quite rare for us).
The only time I use the P button is when I'm sitting in the car with the power on and I want the car to sit still without my foot on the brake pedal.
For regular parking I do as you said. I just push the power button and it automatically lights up the P green indicators. Same with or two previous prius cars .
I'm using the a Break Hold all the time now. I wish the Break Hold didn't revert to the off state when the car is powered down.

I would expect the engine to start randomly every 4 to 6 weeks for maintenance if it hasn't run long enough to get to temperature. Also, maybe once a year to burn off most of the fuel. My hunch is the car won't say when it does this, so might just start at apparently random times.
