Not sure it's preemptive, could've held back on the investment they're were going to do anyways and used it as a "punishment" when really it was already planned.
 
Sad to see an American company also involved in this scandal. But considering how widespread the fraud is, it's not surprising that it's not just German auto makers who engineered their diesel cars (and light trucks) to bypass emission controls.

I'm not the least bit surprised or sad that American companies are involved in this or any scandal really. Well sad that companies can't seem to be good citizens but not sad because American.
 
Will they be taking these trucks off the road like they did with the VAG cars? or have them detuned!/neutered in re-calls?

This will be a tricky one, way more than VW. VW diesel buyers by and large bought for the type of drive diesel provides. Yeah some of the bigger diesels brutes like the Touareg were haulers but most just passenger cars.

Diesel work trucks though need to be capable of towing and hauling, and if you neuter it and it can no longer perform the duties then yeah they're yanked. But the issue is... GM and Dodge surely did the same, so where do those contractors go?
