Must-have modifications

Maaii in Taiwan just posted something very, very cool at the UK forum. I see the kit is listed on Bimmer8’s eBay page at US$149 shipped from Taiwan; I wonder how much a remote coder would charge to activate it, or if anyone knows a local (maybe a BMW CCA member?) who could help.
You would still have to get an E-NET cable (OBD II to RJ45 ethernet) and a Windows based laptop with E-Sys + Data files before a remote coder could do enable the 5AR Traffic Jam Assist.

I think the 5AR is VO Coding (Vehicle Order..kind of like basic BimmerCode) and not FDL (Function Data List like expert mode BimmerCode) so it's theoretically much easier.

Yeah my Dell XPS laptop is too old and decrepit. My iMac is only a couple of years more recent and it runs circles around the XPS. Sigh. Looking at an M2 Air and I’ll load a tester version of Win11 for Arm with Parallels or QEMU. I thought about finding a refurbed recent windows laptop, but it’s more of the same (and would be single-purpose).

While I’m at it I’ll add the rear fogs to the VO. May as well learn me some esys though and save a couple of hundred. Really only curious about this 5AR TJA, knowing how limited it is — and how dodgy it might be with our single-camera KAFAS and no radar.

I have an M2 MacBook Air, and it's the greatest laptop I've ever owned (both performance and physical design). But I don't know if I'd trust running something like reprogramming my car with E-Sys on an Intel-to-ARM translation layer (built into Windows apparently), unless there happens to be an ARM version of E-Sys (or equivalent tool). Or is it written in Java, and there's an ARM version of Java for Windows?

The graphical interface has an older C# or .NET look to it.

I haven’t found any recent posts, but it seems like the only thing people are having trouble with is the launcher. I did find one post that claimed he got both ISTA and e-sys running on an M1, but no corroboration. I guess maybe I will look for a refurbed recent Intel laptop (even if I don’t go ahead with TJA).

Ummm… I know the driver’s airbag can be fussy to remove (lots of poking and wiggling and cussing), but I don’t want to try that “live.” Is the method the same as any other vehicle, disconnecting the earth lead from the 12V battery should suffice? What can I expect upon reconnection of the low voltage battery? Does anything need to be reprogrammed?

Driving to work this morning for the first time since installing yesterday. I am getting a constant error. @SameGuy can you confirm on the wiring harness did you put the wire in spot 1 or did you swap in my case spot 2 and spot 5. Aside from that I did all the coding as stated on the other forum.
Second set of taillights have the same error issue. Back to the drawing board, waiting for the harness now that VLand said should fix the problem. Will take a month to come from china

Planning to order these for my wifes Cooper SE. Will they fit? Are they the correct part numbers?

Also, I would like to paint them yellow. Any idea if they will hold paint well?

If you really want to do good job you sand them with 200/400 wet sandpaper clean/ dry prime them with white primer bc black color is very difficult to paint with yellow and finish with 2-3 coats very light coats with yellow . Paint I’m using is from specialty auto paint store which was mix to Mach a yellow you desire.I paint my yellow cups and mud flaps which I build myself from flexible plastic.IMG_2407.webpIMG_1082.webp

Seen all your mods. Looks great. Question was whether I have the part numbers correct for the Mini Cooper SE electric.

Resurrecting this old thread b/c I was wondering if anyone did aero mods on their SE. I saw that one person did after changing out their grille to the regular S grille. Do you think a front splitter, side skirts, and a rear diffuser would add to the efficiency or make it less efficient due to the down force?

it might make it less efficient at freeway speeds, but at normal in town speeds where the SE already excels, probably not much different. But it sure looks cool!

Tbh, I might even try adding a splitter like that if and when I ever swap out the suspension and lower the car. I think it would look kind of dumb with the stock "Cross-Cooper" stance of the electric, and the spats used to partially hide the fender gaps.

As everyone here is tired of me asking, what about the aerodynamics of the fake hood scoop? As soon as my wonderful MINI Cooper SE arrived 5 years ago, I had a scoopless hood installed. Electric cars don't need fake hood scoops.

I looked for a hood scoop delete replacement, but nobody seems interested enough to make this. I would buy one. Someone w/ some knowledge could probably 3d print one. If I had the time, I could probably make one out of CF.

As that company producing a hood of fiberglass for F 56 gas car for racing and look like Swiss Cheese as is not carbon Fiber but still lighter than steel contact them as will be easier for them to build one scoop less and without those vents and price is attractive. You can imagine price from CF as I look to compare for a Porsche 911 hoods build from CF an a hood is simpler than hood for F56 have no complicated holes for lights assembly and prices were from $10000 to one which make me laugh $35000 and they required hardware and painting. Here a pic .for fiberglass company web page and expensive hood for 911 IMG_2438.jpeg

You're probably the only person that's qualified to answer that question. As I recall, you didn't get any data before your switch. I'm motivated to change out the scoop for anything smooth/flat and anything else to improve the aero.

I just went through this thread, and I realized that I never reported back on my passenger side sun visor: it's awesome! I keep it down nearly 100% of the time.

I must be getting bored bc I've been looking for more mods to throw my hard earned money at. Just received my legit black grille surround, as my plastidip is peeling. Also ordered new black beltline tape bc the original seems to have shrunken a bit (chrome peeking through). Have a lead on some black tail light surrounds. Need the head lights now.

Would like to get some 15" wheels. Can't get the perverse thought about how good the SE would be as a rallycross car w a small lift, 15" wheels and more sidewall. The only issue is that this is also my daily commuter car, so don't want to drive it set up for dirt.

I just ordered some cheap aero (front splitter, side skirts) off eBay ($55). If it looks like crap, it won't be a big loss. Will report back if it makes any difference.

I'm thinking about filling my scoop w/ expanding polyurethane foam and covering it w/ carbon fiber. If I try it, I'll probably buy a cheap replacement so I don't screw up my paint matched one.
