Hello, I am looking to buy a dashcam for my mini, however I want to avoid hardwiring to the fusebox nor having cables around the car. Looking around I found some great alternatives: 1) connecting to the OBD2 port and 2) Using things such as FitDVR and Dongar, which are connected to the rain sensor connector and give power to the dashcam. Has anyone here tried any of these solutions? I looked into FitcamX, however it doesn't seem to be a reliable camera. Thank you.

I have the fitcamx, after hearing other people recommend it. Nice how it seamlessly integrates into the rear view mirror assembly. So far so good.

Have you checked out this thread: Integrated Dashcam Update?

Thank you. Yes, it does look great, but I read many reviews of people finding out the videos were not there when needed.

I am using a Ring Car Cam that I received as a promotion and it connects to the OBD2 port. I intended to use it as trial only, but ended up keeping it installed. Wires are fairly thin and easy to hide. It is not for everyone because of its looks and how its mounted. You can flip between the forward facing camera and interior camera from the app and it does notify you when cars or people get close to the car when parked. I'm actually happy with it. When I took the Mini in for the 2 year maintenance, the Mini dealer made no comments about it being plugged into the OBD2 port.

Thanks for sharing. That's good to know.
