Mazda EV roadster patent

With so many good, rear motor, rear drive EVs already on the market (or coming soon), I'd be really surprised if a smaller Japanese manufacturer bucked trends and made one of the most simple cars more complicated than it need be.

I'm glad the first comment on the R&T article pointed out that MINI used a similar battery layout in 2020-2024.

DIY project from Mini Cooper where traction HV battery don’t belongs that’s why is 114 miles estimated range and 4 years later is not in assembly line anymore as Chinese Mini Cooper improve design double a range putting a battery where belongs and we a happy to be stack with low range and classic design of a car at least I’m

BMW I 3 introduced in 2013 rear drive car but all carbon fiber body was to expensive to keep going to sell a car to a public own for 6 years exelent car to drive around and I can beat a SE from start with those 5x 19 “ skinny tires

Interesting battery layout. ;)

I do have one question, though: if the motor is up front, the batteries are where the transmission tunnel would be, and it is rear wheel drive . . .

. . . where does the driveshaft go?

(I know, I know, patents are just concepts )
Building a car EV with motor on front and use a driveshaft to drive a car with rear wheels is a stupendous engineering design I ever heard ! with many cars EVs as option just rear drive so simple design is Mazda try to develop a WHEEL ?and balance of 50/50 weight distribution is easy achievable as our SE is almost there !That’s why I put in a trunk 80 lbs bag of sand to make SE perfect 50/50 weight distribution as high priced performance cars .
