Wrecked the the SE

Got in a wreck the other day when the driver behind me fell asleep and hit me from behind while I was at a stoplight. No injuries other than a sore neck. I had recently (about a month ago) installed a front/rear dashcam which worked as it should have. Usually I buy this stuff and it sits in my garage pending installation, but for once I didn't procrastinate on installing it.

Here is the footage from the rear. He did not slow down at all. I think he was going roughly 30-35mph (guess).

Let me know if you think the Mini is totaled.

Very sad. It certainly wasn’t weather related. I hope that your neck injury is not a lasting one. It seems that the SE protected you well. I suppose the damage to the frame (including the battery carrier and hatch) will determine whether or not the insurance company totals the vehicle. I wish you well.

watching the vid before looking at the picture, I thought it was going to be way worse! The car held up well.

IMO, the offset hit is likely why its totaled. roof has to be tweaked...

Glad you are ok!

Left of center, didn't slow down, probably sleeping or texting. I see it all the time
driving here in the Wild West. The years I spent as a volunteer FF/EMT, the force involved in MVA's amazed me. Watch the neck. Glad to see you are OK and that our Mini held up well.
What camera setup do you use? That long list of things to do.

I appreciate it.

It felt worse than it looked lol. I trimmed the end of the video so no one had to listen to me cuss.

Using the Viofo A229 Pro. Took me about 2 hours to install and about 10 minutes to remove :(

You hit it on the head. He was asleep. The footage I pulled from the memory card was better quality. His head is in the middle of the car (over the console) slumped over.

The worst (?) part is that if it is totaled there isn’t another comparable car in the US to replace it with.

Hopefully the driver woke up after the crash and was cooperative?

I didn't speak to the other driver at all. He was cooperating with the police and paramedics but you could tell he was not with it. The guy ended up pulling all the loose parts off his Pathfinder and then drove leaving a trail of radiator fluid. I was disappointed that the police officer let him drive away. Neither him or his car was in any shape to leave the scene.

Lots of lower mileage used ones still, though, and at reasonable prices. Depending on any insurance payout, this might turn out to be a chance to rollback the odometer for limited cost.
As to me is great price and only 1700 miles 2024 one owner no accidents is the way to go as you like your SE to replace yours 40000 miles you crashed IMG_1999.webp

After 3 years 3 months owning as I pay $30000 and $7500 tax rebate I believe I’m doing OK price vise as they going cheaper bc of a range you can drive and in my case 10 years later if I’m alive even 50 miles range driving around Staten Island NY . is going to do for me as a beautiful car design as Mini Cooper SE old design !

We're so reliant on driving for 100% of our mobility in the US that so much unsafe behavior is left to slide. Both driver and car impaired? Sure.. drive away after slamming into someone. This story plays out all over the country.

From the video it looks like a necklace starts lower, then gets higher right before the crash. I bet they were looking down at their phone.

Really infuriating that people can risk the lives of others and suffer no consequences.

Officially the Mini has been totaled :(. Apparently the cops were called on this guy about a mile down the road where he fell asleep at the stop sign. He must have woken up before they got there and then plowed into me.

Washed the Mini every weekend and babied the hell out of it. I got all kinds of compliments and thoroughly enjoyed a car that I always wanted.

I drive 70-100 miles a day. My mini covered this pretty well (85% of the time), but if I had to do an errand or anything, I had to find a charger during lunch. I am going to go back to a Mach-E for a little further range and a little more space.

I can say that I enjoyed the maturity of this board and all the helpful people here. Hard to find that nowadays.

I don't know if it's worth it to you, or even how much the estimated repair bill is... but you can probably buy the car back from the insurance company if you wanted to fix it.

I did not get an exact breakdown, but I do have this:View attachment 24022
Thanks! Using the 75% rule, which may or may not be accurate, it would suggest your 2023 41k mile (that's a lot of miles for ~2 years!) is worth about $20000. Ouch?
Some other interesting bits - your labor rates seem pretty low and it's funny that all labor is quoted to a decimal point - it's going to take 51 hours and 6 minutes to do the bodywork...
Taxes - what on earth is "other tax 1"? You'd like to know who is getting your hard earned money wouldn't you? (that's a general 'you" not specifically you amtrucker22 :))

cheers
