I apologize if this has been covered before, but I'm new to the party here.
Has anyone installed a third brake light flasher on their SE?
I had one on the R50 and currently on my R56, and always had them on
my motorcycles.
Each generation HAL seems to be taking more control, so I'm trying
to avoid a self induced electrical issue.

More important to me was knowing when my MINI Cooper SE was flashing its brake lights without me touching the brake pedal (first described in this post).

What I did was install an LED that I can see in my rear-view mirror. You might be interested in seeing the step-by-step description of how I disassembled the Center High Mounted Stop Lamp. I'm still offering free 12V LEDs to anyone else who wants to have one--I have a ton of them.

I installed a brake light flasher in my first Mini (2003 S). The center light did all the flashing. The installation was painless (that may not apply now), and worked like a charm. A few days after the installation, one of those big heavy pickups got a tad close behind me. A light touch of the brake made him drop back a block or so. The installation just involved wiring the flasher in the circuit to the center light. That may not work with all the electronics today.

Thanks for that. I did read your post on this previously, and was also thinking bout doing this mod if I was
going to have the brake light apart. Gen1 and Gen2 Mini's handled this mod, I suspect that since doing this set up didn't cause any electrical issues, the flasher will not be a problem.

I would guess the only problem would be if the MINI perceives the flashing as an intermittent loss of connection to the brake light. It's not difficult to access, so you can quickly undo the flasher if it produces an error message on the dash.

That was my biggest concern. I did a search on northamericanmotoring a saw that a couple of 3Gen
owners did this mod with no problem, and dealers were also doing this, albeit for quite a hefty price tag.
So I should be OK doing this. Besides, what could go wrong:)
