Trip planning in the Mini App

Sadly there hasn't been any implementation of the CarPlay EV route planning, except apparently the Mach-E. This frustrates me to no end since Apple announced the feature in 2020 (Apple's implementation queries each car maker's app for battery info so Apple doesn't have to learn how to talk to the car itself). It does seem Ford is also going to add F-150 Lightning support by the end of the year, which I'm hoping is the case since I just bought one.

I've considered creating my own dummy implementation that might even mimic the SE, to see what it's like.
 
That Mini app feature sounds pretty cool. Having charging stations, photos, and ratings all in one place is super handy, especially when you're on the road. Knowing how long you’ll need to charge saves a ton of time too.

Reminds me of a trip I took where I had to figure out stops on the go—it was such a hassle. I stayed at one of those Canberra hotels Australia that was close to everything, including a charger nearby, which made things way less stressful.
 
Several months ago, I planned a trip of about 400Km, it came back telling me that I only need to charge twice before arriving at the destination with 10% of battery power left. What surprised me was that in one leg of the journey I can go 218.5 km before stopping to charge. I really don't want to try that.

I don't know those roads. Perhaps there is a looooong descent right after you charge for that leg of your trip? I wouldn't expect the app to count on tailwinds.

Checked the app again. This time is a little different. Maybe the newer version found a closer charger, and the distance between chargers are now more realistic, at least to my liking. Roads in southern Ontario are generally relatively flat, but since the route suggested by the app is not on major highway, maybe the speed limit and traffic condition help with the consumption of battery power. However, chargers on the route are few and far between. There will be no plan B if the chargers are out of order. Trip.webp
