We happened to have our car in for repairs around the day it came out. Our car is now updated, but if they suspect there might be a problem I wish they would just replace the battery, and the high voltages system (I know that's majorly expensive, and the numbers of failures that they have acknowledged our miniscule, but if Chevy can do it then why not Mini/BMW :). It is only marginally comforting that now there's a system in place if my battery/high voltage system has some sort of major failure, and they know that some of the systems may not have been made to code.

Chevy had to eventually replace all of the Bolt batteries, just to save their reputation as a new EV manufacturer.

BMW/MINI have been building electrified vehicles for much longer, and with only 2 "thermal events" to date, aren't facing a similar PR problem.

The EV1 was around in the 90s. Think if GM had continued to develop their EVs, instead of killing their EV program and restarting it, after Toyota came out w the Prius. The US could've had a huge advantage on EV manufacturing.

I meant building and selling.

Dang, my car is on the list. I'll have to call the dealer and see when they can fit me in. I very rarely charge to 100%, so that presumably lowers my chances for a fire.

I guess it is a 100% recall for the SE. Better safe than sorry.

Even BMW models like the iX, i4, and i7 had issues regarding the Battery Management Electronics (SME module) software in 2023. To my knowledge the last time the official BMW ISTA database was updated was August 6, 2024 so I guess we'll just have to wait?

Will the update affect the GOM's reported maximum range? If it does, I doubt the change will be positive. When BMS software updates are mandated, I always assume the optimistic, performance-oriented, original programmers have been replaced with programmers instructed to be more conservative.

That’s what I see on my recall Status - Recall /incomplete /can anyone translates this to me bc I didn’t contact dealer yet .Should we keep SE outdoor for a time before that issue is solved bc my neighbor with Kona ev was not aloud park a car in garage by dealer for a year as takes that long to replaced his HV battery bc of FIRE hazard.I don’t believe is only 5% SE’s effected Kona I believe have 100 K units .As I have a melt down on my NEMA 14-50 I have a smoke detector near plug and second one above hood on ceiling and hopefully get sufficient time to escape my barbecue SE .

My "maintenance warranty" expires in November, so I was going to go in then anyway to take advantage of that... Though suggestions on what "maintenance" to request is welcome, it doesn't really need anything, except this update.

One of these days I'm going to drive 30MPH cruise control loop to really see what the max range is. If the i3 can do 8.0mi/kWh or better, then the SE should at least get 6.0mi/kWh. If that holds true, then that's about 173.4 miles or 6 hours of non-stop driving @ 30MPH!

I'm curious to see what the root cause was for the Rivian Plant parking lot fire in IL. Sad to see the 57 R1S/R1Ts go up in flames!

My guess is that you would go considerably further than that.

Appropriately-timed article, even though there's very little chance any of us need to worry. Electric vehicle battery fires—what to know and how to react

TL;DR:
  1. Get out – safely pull over, put in park, and just leave your stuff.
  2. Get away – Go 100 feet, there will be toxic fumes.
  3. Let it burn – water won't put it out, wait for fire response to deal with it.
As I contact my SE Dealer about safety recall on HV battery talking for sure to wrong people 2managers didn’t return a calls and I was first to call about it I’m assuming they must sell only 1SE to me bc they never heard about issues for recall on HV battery or they play stupid and don’t have an answers how to deal with it yet .Tomorrow is another day and I see what they come up with ? I take Puppethead advise seriously and run. Away and let it burn bc my 2 lbs fire extinguisher in trunk is good to nock down a cigarette bud .
