This seems to have been discussed in other threads, but mostly related to EVSEs. My SE is now giving me this warning/error with every charge, and I've tried on different EVSEs. Charging that normally would take about 3.5 hours is now more like 6 hours.

I have a Grizzl-E and a J+ Booster 2 on separate circuits, and my F-150 Lighting charges normally.

It sounds like maybe the KLE? Looks like I'll be visiting my dealer. I just hope it doesn't completely die.

One frustrating thing about this is there is no indication in the app about this, it shows the car is set to 32 A but doesn't show what the car is actually charging at. Combined with the screwy timezone issues with the app notifications it was very difficult to realize there's a problem until I actually sat in the car while charging.

I’m sure you was seeing my treads about charging with reduced charge for long time 2 visit to dealers help nothing and I give up for a moment but once my garbage Leviton 14-50 nema burn out and I changed to Hubbell a thing changed my Clipper Creek HCS -40PR - 32 amps was send to manufacture for check up once the plug burn and now working 9 years flowles 7 years with I 3 as I never unplug charger only few times I noticed once a plug was not push 100% to receptacle not noticeable when I look was reducing charging a that point. What also I notice when you plug and you see reduced charge on dashboard unplug and plug again and I always get Maximum charge sometimes I did twice but works for me .For past 7-9 months rearly happens.I get maximum charge all the time in my garage.Never happens on L2 on public chargers as last 4 months I use them on weekly basis but public charger is 6.6 kWh . Plug and unplug you see miracle happens with my SE and KLE was never changed and dealer as long they cannot replicate reduced charge they send me home and one idiot send me to DC fast charging station to fix an issue what is not an unusual they are unskilled technicians for EVs.Good luck with dealer ! As I’m driving about 200 miles weekly recently I love SE even more passing arrogant SUV owners with Mini Cooper SE with ease ! Sorry about my “ Oxford “ English but many members now’s that as I never attended English school / classes .

If you out of warranty and you expierience charging issues this is your KLE unit responsible for charging IMG_1529.webp

I know it's not that, my Grizzl-E is hardwired and my J+ Booster 2 is using a Hubbell receptacle. And as I pointed out, my F-150 Lightning is charging properly on my EVSEs.

$1,538.29 is cheaper than $5K for the extended warranty I refused.

Does the diagram on that page correctly identify the KLE's location? The location would affect the labor cost to replace the KLE.

5 hours from 47% to 100% ? isnt that something you can live with? especially if you are charging over night. I wouldnt get all bent out of shape over 6kW? on a cooper mini not like you asre road tripping _right ? I know it probably gnawing at you but that would drive me more crazy than a slightly slower charging speed

You could try to diagnose with an ENET cable (ethernet OBD-II) and ISTA+ if you have a Windows based laptop and 100GB of HDD space.

I can live with it, and have been for a few days. But if there's a faulty component somewhere it could go completely bad at some point and then I'd get no charging. That would make the SE unusable.

I just tried charging at a ChargePoint location that's 6.1 kW and my SE only drew 3.1 kW, so it's definitely an issue with the vehicle. I'm still waiting to hear from my dealer.

My SE has been diagnosed. The issue was one of the two relays in the KLE wouldn't trip, which is why I was only getting half charge rate. There were some fault codes, but the KLE passed all diagnostics so it could be the cable issue from the rodent damage may be the cause and the KLE is fine. The plan is to replace the shielded cable but it's a matter of waiting for parts from Germany.

I did confirm the KLE is indeed on the drivers' side as depicted in the parts catalog.

While my SE was being diagnosed I drove around in an F66. I really liked it, seems a decent successor. But the F66 may be bigger than the J01 being basically the same size as the F56, and I was told the windshield rake isn't as pronounced as the J01. The radar-based ACC works great and the software is pretty incredible, although the "go kart experience" mode seemed rather tame. I'm not sure the F66 is anywhere near as good for handling as the F56, but unless you autocross or do rally probably won't notice.

I will say I absolutely will never go back to ICE, I do not like the delayed throttle response at all.

Last night my SE failed to charge. Not sure if it was plugged in wrong, or if my EVSE had an issue, or something with the SE. At 5:30 am I reconnected and the car started charging, but because of the reduced power it only got to 70% SoC (starting at 34%) in the 3.5 hours before my charge window closed at 9 am and I had to go to work. So yeah, reduced power isn't great for me since I drive 100 miles per day. Still waiting on parts from Germany.

Guess today is a good opportunity to try out a newly-opened Electrify America location on my way home. Sitting at a Level 2 charger would be too long at reduced power.

I believe there are two AC charging units, the KLE (~30A @ 240V) and the EME (~15A @ 240V). If you are having charge connection issues, the I'd also get them to check your LIM for the control pilot pin module. A faulty LIM would also impact the DC fast charging because of the signalling with control pilot.

My SE has failed to charge a half dozen times. I believe it to be connected to a 'battery is discharging' warning. The last time the dealer had it, they ran a slew of tests, said there was nothing wrong. The next morning, it had thrown a battery discharging error. So they flashed the latest software and finally stopped trying to say that it must be my EVSE...

If I can help some how as dealer is saying is your EVSE a problem as my experience charging in my garage I 3 for 7 years with a Creeper Creek charger and for 2 1/8 years SE when my Leviton receptacle as year ago burn you should have only Hubbell receptical if your charger is plug in I have a problem with new car going to reduce charging for long time a dealer was telling me nothing wrong with car and suddenly for 1 1/2 year car is charging on max on L 2 in garage with the same charger .Make sure your plug is fully in into outlet .and I expierience as I plug once than second time unplug plug again was full Max charge as those cars are still not perfect !

Well Météore got the chewed wiring fixed, but there's still a Level 2 charging problem and the KLE module has to be replaced. :(:(

The wiring was not an easy job, since MINI has no documentation or service process for replacing the harness. So kudos are due to my dealer for getting it done.

Here's what Météore looked like during the repair (I posted this in another thread), with the bundle of wires hanging out the back being what needed replacing.

I'm going ahead with the KLE module replacement because I suspect I'll be driving this SE for many more years, and the ICE F66 Cooper S I've been driving really makes me miss my SE.
