Engine drive shift shock

I've experienced this over the past few months, when engine drive kicks in, it feels like I'm getting a bit more power to the wheels, and I have to noticeably let off the accelerator pedal while cruising otherwise I will start to pick up speed. My only guesses as to what's causing this is that the engine is making more power than the ECU thinks it is, but I know my car didn't exhibit this behavior earlier in it's life (a feat I consider to be amazing as the ECU has no direct way of measuring the engines output), and I have a hard time believing that the engine gained horsepower over that time. Anyone else have a similar experience? I could have sworn that the transmission used to be seamless.

This may seem like a dumb question, but is it possible that you car is stuck in Sport Mode?
Sport Mode can make it 'feel' like there is more power by virtue of the way it re-maps the response of the accelerator pedal.

Sport mode wouldn't cause the car to speed up when engine drive mode is engaged. Accelerator pedal position remains the same, and when engine drive is engaged, it will accelerate a bit. And no, it's not stick in sport mode.

Your memory is correct. On my 2018 the transition is still completely seamless. I occasionally put on the display to check for the gear icon, but nothing besides the display gives any hint of the clutch engaging and disengaging the engine.

Yeah, I thought so. Extremely annoying, it's not worse than a shift on a regular auto, but it's definitely not seamless like it used to be. Unfortunately, finding the table that controls direct drive engagement is pretty difficult, but im thinking I'm just going to effectively "delete" engine drive to "fix" the problem.

Engine-drive is the most efficient way to move the Clarity down the highway or Honda wouldn't have added that mechanism, which adds increased complication, bulk, and weight. Do you believe your Clarity is activating engine-drive mode more often than it did before it became so noticable?

I'm curious, does someone know if all of Honda's newer two-motor hybrids retain the engine-drive mechanism?

I'm well aware that it improved efficiency. I am more than happy to sacrifice efficiency for comfort. No, it's not activating more often, and even if it did it used to be seamless so I really wouldn't have noticed

I read they have upped the game to a 2 speed transmission so it can come into play at lower speeds.
