If it's done with production you should be able to get the VIN and that will tell you where it's coming from, also if it's a '22 it's a German car, if it's a '23 it's from Tennessee.

Hi, @NOMI! I'd love to more more about your experience and hope you'll start a new thread to share it. Most of all, I'd like to know if you got/are getting the full $7,500 IRA incentive. It's made in the US and the battery mineral requirements don't start kicking in until next year, so I'd like to think it's eligible, but maybe I'm missing something.

Our experience has been good in some areas, the reservation process is a bit chaotic as we had a '22 reserved that we cancelled once the IRA was signed, we immediately reserved a AWD Pro S + on August 11th and a AWD Pro S on August 12th with the AWD Pro S coming delivered on November 12th. Still waiting on the Pro S + and will probably be hit with the $1,500 increase. Not a good look for VW when the other mfgs have held the price for reservation holders.
As for the '23 ID.4, it has been great, the software has not given us any problems, it has power / torque whenever needed and the free charging at Electrify America is great, with the only small bummer being the EA Level 3 chargers not working or being slow or being used. I travel about 120 miles to / from work, or about 50% of the battery and when only charging to the recommend 80% I'm charging every day at the fast chargers, I'll soon be installing a JuiceBox in the garage.

We just picked up our ID4 a week ago. It isn't the AWD, it is the RWD, because I'd rather have a bit more range, and save money. For what we are using it for in CA, no need for AWD. So we have all heard all the gripes about the ID4 software and bugs, but so far, I too haven't seen that. I've noticed one or two little things which I'll list below, but my wife loves it a lot more than she thought she would. She wanted to Q4 Etron, but it had so many delays, price increases, and then lost the FED tax rebate, it just couldn't be on my list. Yes, I expect to receive the full fed tax rebate on it. The 2023 made in the US ID4 is now on the list on the EPA's website, or whoever holds the official list. With the battery guidance delayed until March, it like the Bolt, will likely continue to qualify for the full tax credit. But the price is going up Jan 4, so we jumped on an unsold one. I have an order for a PRO RWD, but it never came in, so we ended up finding a Pro S RWD. No regrets. I'll post a photo below.
The few bugs / oddities we have found so far: Even though we have it set to only charge at night, half the time I plug it in it starts to charge, and I have to change the setting in the car. Not sure what that is about. We have it set to charge immediately if its below 50%, otherwise charge at night to 70%. The other issue is that their is NO locking confirmation sound when you lock with the button on the door handles, so you don't really know if it locked. The app tells me if its locked or unlocked, but doesn't seem to let me actually lock it from the App.

put a $500 reservation at the local dealership on a '23 rwd Pro S+ on Jan 3... or did i just buy a $500 piece of paper, like my wife says?
it looked like a contract with the correct model and price, and i signed it like a contract, but they all said "we'll choose the int/ext colors and options later in the process"
does that actually sound correct?

Usually if you can't get a refund its considered a binding contract. Or a "buyers order". That might be binding.

I wouldn't worry, I think it's all legit. I paid $500 when I made my reservation through VW. Now, it appears ordering is placed w/ a dealer. As long as your order is not taking priority, nobody gets hurt.
