Honestly, the longest part was waiting for the Body Domain Controller to load into BimmerCode over Bluetooth. One of the easiest mods I’ve ever completed on a car.

Just received my production number. I just created a record of my history in the spreadsheet (hopefully I did it right, lol).
I know almost nothing about excel (or any other spreadsheet), but I managed to figure it out. The OP and others are good at housekeeping the project as well, cleaning up my errors when they catch them.

I slapped the plate on as soon as I got home from the dealership on Friday evening, then went online to activate it, and the dmv website needed my official plate number, the personalized plate’s character string, and the car’s registration certificate number. The temporary certificate from the dealership doesn’t have that, and the permanent one won’t arrive for another week or two, so today I found a hidden dmv outlet that doesn’t have two-hour waits and got them to print me a replacement certificate. Because the normal “two weeks” hasn’t yet elapsed, I was told I’d have to pay for the new slip. It was $4.90! Done. Activating it now, and installing the plate after DW heads to bed. :)

Silly question... has anyone's car been stuck in port hueneme for almost two weeks? Mine's just.. sitting down there enjoying the sun tan. (hopefully they didn't ding it)

All done! Might perhaps post additions to other “first impressions” threads, but some bullet points here:

  • Active shutters are loose on the near side, pointed it out to the Delivery Genius, but as my delivery was after the service department closed for the weekend, it’ll be done another time (see below).
  • Only one pair of mud flaps came in on time, so none were installed and I’ll have to set up an appointment once the other set arrives — at which time the shutters will be sorted.
  • Window tint films were applied yesterday, so I was advised not to open windows or pano roof until Sunday arvo.
  • Mine came shod with the Goodyear Eagle F1s. No complaints.
  • I received both the old L1 chargers, as well as the new BMW Flexible Fast Charger, along with its mounting bracket and holster. Both are very flimsy-looking. Ordering the Grizzl-E Smart EVSE tonight.
  • As others have noted, no rear mats. Whatever; I quickly installed the full 3D Kagu mats set, and they are fantastic.
  • It’ll take me some time to acquaint myself with all the features and quirks.
  • Quick iDrive head-scratcher: MINI’s iDrive controller scrolls anti-clockwise, unintuitive for left hand drivers, but CarPlay selections go clockwise like in Bimmers. So dumb.
  • The tires drone much louder than I expected at highway speeds
All in all, what an exciting first few hours!

the charger mounting bracket and holster , are these in the same white box from the fast charger ?
Looked in mine but none of them were in the box. I ordered them separately 35 bucks and 2 months wait from Germany.

I didn’t get the BMW outer box; my kit was already in the bag, and the bracket kit was in a small box within. Everything inside was sealed. I put it all back together and it all fits in the Grizzl-E box, so it’ll get photographed and put up on eBay soon. Also have an extra EasyEV holster and the 3D-printed bracket for the Flex.

Just a small update.. my Mini advisor just e-mailed me and now it looks like it should be showing up next week. Eeek! I gotta make a checklist.. shutters..rear floor mats.. manuals.. (wish there was a setting to set the voice to the british accent.. I've heard it's a firmware thing.. too bad..)

With regard to the Inflation Reduction Act, has anyone received confirmation from their Motoring Advisor that the $250 deposit and signed Inquiry Report counts as a sales contract?

I am not sure if I or any other deposit holders waiting for our cars this year will still qualify for the current EV credit once the new bill is signed into law, changing the rules which are not in favor of BMW vehicles.

Any thoughts? Confirmation? I already reached out to my MINI advisor, and he doesn't know yet.

I haven't read through the bill so I'm probably not much help but from my research... if the bill is passed - it'll go into effect Jan. 1st (I think..) but I wouldn't blame you for being nervous. My order was put in back in May and I should be getting the car next week. So roughly 3+ months? IF you put in an order right now I it could be pretty close especially with the holidays/shipping time delays ect.

From what I understand, the time you actually pay for the car on delivery and drive it off the lot is when you get any dealer incentives and when the purchase actually counts as far as I know but I've heard others using a lawyer or trying to count it as a purchase (maybe if you prepay before delivery but I'm not sure if that's a great idea..) ... hopefully you get your car soon. :/ Sorry probably not much help but that's what I've seen/read so far.

Yeah, its confusing. Here is the link, page 394-395. The transition rule is what I am trying to analyze.

I've already got a deposit in with a production number; but in terms of the new law, I am not sure if a deposit counts (just like the millions of deposits out there right now for many other manufacturers)

My dealer generated more formal sales orders for everyone that had placed orders prior to the bill signing to help protect their customers. I am hoping that will be sufficient and was certainly appreciated.

That is great that your dealer is trying to be proactive!

(not a lawyer) re-reading page 394, it seems the minute details and interpretations of the transition rule are up to the Treasury Secretary's discretion... could be a travesty or a blessing, who knows at this point... what a mess.
