After waiting six months for the part to come in, I made the appointment and dropped the car off on Thursday. When I called this morning (I called, because they never, ever call), they told me that they'd driven the car, didn't hear any noises, and hadn't done the replacement. I'm losing my mind. I thought we went through all of this validating that the problem was real back in November, which is WHY WE ORDERED THE PART. Now they're telling me there is no problem.

Update: they replaced the gear reduction unit but were still hearing the noise. Now they want to replace the motor. Funny because I mentioned this thread and other people’s issue with the motor and they didn’t believe me. And when we went to discuss our lease end with a salesperson she mentioned that she knows about this issue and even had someone return their car because of the noise and it turned out to need a new motor. So why wasn’t this communicated to the tech department? We’re still waiting on our car to be fixed (supply chain is a nightmare), and have been driving one of the dealership’s hybrid Niros for 5 weeks. So frustrated with KIA!

There have been others who had their gear reduction unit replaced first and then later the motor. Part of the problem may be the motor mounts which get replaced too. I speculate that possibly the motor gets damaged and failed motor mounts or motor to reduction gear alignment is the root cause.

Thanks for the info, I’m really hoping the motor and gear reduction unit replcements will fix it. The motor has finally arrived to Colorado, now just waiting for it to get to our dealership.

@Paul-ATL They NEVER call me either. Yesterday I was so fed up that I went over there and finally got an update. They have had really high turnover so no one knows what’s going on and the service manager doesn’t take my calls anymore.
We went ahead and purchased the vehicle when the lease ended earlier this month (there was nothing else available) but will sell it when we get our next vehicle. Currently have reserved an f-150 Lightning, id4, and have ordered a model Y which is due to be delivered by October. Will most likely cancel the other reservations but not putting all our eggs in one basket right now.

Second trip to nearest EV certified KIA repair.

They're trying to say it's a CV joint.

The noise is only heard when the motor is engaged (not while coasting or rolling) which is definitive of the problem.

KIA service is a *huge* disappointment.

What good is a warranty that the manufacturer does not honor?

Final update. We got our car back last Friday. Drives like a dream now with a new gear reduction unit AND motor. But then I heard a sound coming from the hvac system that got louder when turning up the fan speed. Took it back today and they found a leaf in the fan that fell in when they changed the cabin filter. So now we are good to go FINALLY after an 8-week saga.

Be persistent and reference all of us here that have been through it! If they fix the CV joint and its still making the sound they’ll have to do the next thing. Eventually they’ll get it right hopefully.

I don't have an eNiro but I have an eSoul 150kW, August 2020, 20,000 km. I believe the engine and transmission are basically the same as the Niro and Hyundai Kona.

I also have the "wheel of fortune" or "card in the spokes" noise. I recorded the noise from under the bonnet, see here: https://soundcloud.com/user-603699453-276740121/soul-ruido-tony-2022-05-27.

I was wondering if there is anybody out there who is also in Spain, with either a Soul, Niro or Kona, has managed to get this solved, how they got on and whether the dealers are now being told by Kia to replace the engine right at the start or whether they still have to go through the whole process of alignment then gearbox then eventually engine. I'm 'preparing my case' for when I take the car in on 21 June. If they don't acknowlege the problem, I'm thinking I might contact the main Spanish distributor or Kia in Seoul and see if they are familiar with the issue and what the recommended procedure is. Any advice would be most welcome!

That is *really* bad. Hope Kia resolves this for you.

Well now our 12v battery is dead a week after the motor replacement. I’m starting to feel like I’m being gaslighted. Not the first time with KIA either.

Update on my 2019 Niro EV - local dealership has escalated the service request through KIA techline, after confirmation that it's a drivetrain noise. Two weeks delay expected for approval. Downtime for service quoted as 2-3 weeks!

At least it is recorded as a motor/gear reducer failure in the KIA warranty log.

Took my dealership 1 business day to complete the motor replacement... 2-3 weeks seems kind of insane.

Yep my 2019 Eniro has the ticking noise, kea no say it’s either the motor or reduction gearbox. Just waiting for Kea NZ to come to the party an instruct the dealer to fix it .

The idea of the petition was to see how many people we could get, first in Spain where I live, but then worldwide, then somehow write a letter or something to somebody in Kia, maybe at the Head Office in Seoul. We would quote the petition(s) to show just how widespread this problem is, then urge them to (1) keep working on the definitive solution (which I'm sure they are doing) and, (2) more importantly, pledge to continue fixing the problem on all cars regardless of the guarantee. It would be a good addition if somebody could set up a similar petition in other non-English speaking countries.
