Here's a post ceramic coating photo. This was not scrubbed, just soapy water and rinse using a hand-held wand. Dried it using a battery powered leaf blower.

One annoyance is when using the volume knob, I tend to hit the haptic buttons for temperature. Other than that, it's an excellent vehicle. The front window coating was worthless and need to use the wipers all the time (only lasted about 2 weeks). The rear window coating does help; the spoiler does clear the lower 3/4 of the rear window, with the section, underneath the spoiler, accumulating most of the dirt. Regardless, a rear wiper sure would've been good since the spoiler won't help unless the car is moving ... Hyundai.

Update on the ceramic coating ...

It was washed by the dealer to place in their showroom. The tech doing the prep work (several washes and clay bar) noticed the entire body has an unidentified haze on the surface of the paint. We don't know where/how the haze came to be - I suspect during shipping, tech suspects the dealer may have had an acid wash done. It had swirls in the paint too from a buffer used in polishing the paint . Causing more work for the tech to remove the haze/swirls; at least he can get rid of both.

He started doing individual body panels for the ceramic coating late today so he's making progress. Should be able to pick it up on Saturday (this being Wednesday). The haze removal delayed the job by a full day (it's a one-person operation). He said I should see a noticeable difference simply due to the haze removal, let alone the ceramic coating being applied.

As a side note, he said the flaps keep opening/closing and a fan running in his heated shop, randomly; that is a known occurrence but unusual none the less. When he's done, I'll take some more photos and post one or two if they show a big difference. I'm more concerned with protecting the paint and having that wiper-less rear window ceramic coated.

I will update this post once it's all done.

Picked up my AWD Ultimate yesterday, so I definitely haven't driven enough to offer a full review of the car. However, first impressions:

The interior feels huge. I had not even sat in an Ioniq until yesterday, so it was really eye-opening to see the back seat area in particular. The car also feels very light and airy, which I think is a strong reason to pick the Ioniq over the EV6. On balance, I don't love the two-tone paint, but it is great that Hyundai had the confidence to go ahead with such a striking design. It is exactly how I imagine a modern take on a Lancia Delta Integrale would look (yes, lots of people online have observed this already, but the Integrale is one of my childhood hero cars).

The car feels pretty quick. Our other EV is a Taycan Turbo, so the Ioniq doesn't feel remotely fast in comparison, but for a $60k CAD car, it has very strong straight line performance. As expected, the steering is pretty numb and lacking in feel, but this is not a car I bought to hustle over twisty mountain roads.

Seats are comfortable / supportive, although a long trip will be the true test of this. It is silly that heated / vented seats and the heated steering wheel controls are buried a layer deep in the menu. Buttons for these features would be far better / safer. I always use Apple CarPlay, so if you're in the CarPlay interface, it's a further step to get out of CarPlay and into the sub-menu for the seats.

The rear / side cameras are excellent. Much better than the Taycan's in terms of the field of vision you get when backing up, and the blind spot cameras are really useful when turning across a bike lane, etc.

Not having a rear wiper was a mistake. It was raining when I picked up, and it obviously impedes rear visibility to have a screen covered in raindrops. The screen does not shed water as it would with the more raked glass angle of a sedan. Why they skipped the rear wiper is beyond me. Certainly it won't have any material impact on range, even if it does result in slightly improved aerodynamics.

Overall it's really hard to see how there could be a better EV choice at the price. The Model Y's ride quality and overall refinement is abysmal, and I really dislike the interior and exterior design. Yes, it's faster and has longer claimed range, but it's just not remotely close to being worth $20k more. The ID4 / Q4 etron feel like they aren't quite ready for primetime, or at least they are not nearly as innovative as they should be for brand new designs.

Congrats! How about a photo? Did you find a reasonable dealer? I agree about the rear wiper--it should have at least been an option. Which of your two EVs will you take if you go on a long trip?

Agreed, and great comparative write up, thanks for that.

Curious if your Ionic 5 can beat the Taycan in a side by side DC charge challenge, or if they are somewhat similar given the different equipment but same 800V charging characteristics.;)

Couple of bad photos here. I think it depends on the trip. We are trading the Taycan Turbo in for a GTS Sport Turismo, but even this body style doesn't have the greatest trunk space. For more of a kids' road trip we'd likely load up the Ioniq. If it was just the two of us, most likely the Porsche.

I just hope that the Electrify Canada and Petro Canada 350 kW chargers actually deliver anything like the claimed speed next time I try them. I've tried both chargers on the Taycan Turbo and also a rental 4S Cross Turismo. The best I saw was around 125 kW.

That matches my latest observation .
Software compatibility and reliability of the charging units themselves (Petro Can 350 kW units close to my home have been taped off -out of commission for 5 months now ( see Checkins), makes that DC challenge a lot more difficult to accomplish.
Regrettably if these networks actually want to make any money while inspiring a level of confidence, there is a long way to go.

I see only 2 broken-image icons.

I insert photos the lazy way: I can double-click on a photo file (previously sized to 300-600 pixels wide) and it opens in MS Photos. Then I select Copy from Photos' 3-bar menu at the top right, return to my post, position the cursor below my text, right-click, and select Paste from the context menu. There must be other apps that can do this, too.

I think I figured it out - the album I uploaded the photos to was set to private.

Your I5 looks great with that matte finish. After seeing your photo, I had to look for a product for maintaining a matte finish and found one on Amazon, but don't know if I would trust a product called "Rat Wax."

is this the Lucid Blue colour?
Its actually digital teal. Its weird colour in that typically pictures don't seem to do it justice. In real life it appears to colour shift between blue/grey and a very pearlescent green depending on the lighting and what angle your viewing it at. I have never quite seen a colour like this. It impressed my elderly mother and seemingly every one at the dealership, lol.
