When we sold our daughters E46, and the fleet was relatively normal, I thought about a used Cooper for fun. But the cost of a new SE after the rebates, and my wife test driving the SE nixed that idea.

Just need the configurator to allow blue to be ordered. I wonder how far back in line I am from when they opened 2023 to orders.
There is weird way to get the blue to show up in the configurator. You have to spec the car in the Iconic trim and then pick the black cloth/leatherette and it forces you into the blue with the multi-color roof spec.

That is the 2022 special edition. Has the seats, wheels, roof and decals we (as in she) don't want. Also, it is no longer available since it is a 2022 special edition. But it shows that there is a way for the factory to know to paint the car blue. Frustrating. Thanks.

There was a post here a while ago asking how one would order the special edition. You found it!!

@CuriousGeorge in post #31 looked into this: https://www.irs.gov/businesses/30d-manufacturer-faqs#collapseCollapsible1644579266141

If there is a controlled group, then the manufacturer quota will not be separate. You can see the BMW numbers at:
https://www.irs.gov/businesses/irc-30d-plug-in-electric-drive-motor-vehicle-credit-quarterly-sales

This is before i4 & iX deliveries plus all the plug in hybrids.

Why are there only 3 manufacturers on this list? Where are Kia, Hyundai, Toyota?

No idea for the IRS website. You can also check https://evadoption.com/ev-sales/federal-ev-tax-credit-phase-out-tracker-by-automaker/

Toyota will likely phase out Q1 2022, so the credits will be 100% Q1 (22), 50% Q2/Q3 (22), 25% Q4 (22) Q5(23). Hyundai/Kia/Genesis group will probably be okay for the next few years but who knows after BBB.
Not quite true. If Toyota hits 200k in Q1 you can still get the full $7500 in Q2. There is a grace quarter before the ramp down starts. Basically the IRS will announce in Q2 that Toyota hit in Q1 and the ramp will start in Q3.

Nice work! Now I can still get a Prius Prime in April with my tax refund and claim another $7,500 credit for 2022 tax year!

So I’m all set on ordering a 2023. The San Diego dealer adds $1,500 in add-ones for ceramic paint coating and window tint on the back windows. I planned on doing this anyway, but I know I can get it done less expensively with better quality at my local shop. I have found another dealer that sells at MSRP with no add-ons. I probably will order from them. Interestingly, they are 103 miles from my house. I may not make it home on the first drive without stopping to charge.

Anyway, the next thing to determine is trim. I always buy my cars with leather seats and the best factory stereo. That seems to put me in the Iconic trim. I think it is possible to get the Signature+ trim with leather seats for $5,000 instead of the regular $4,000 up-charge above the Signature trim. The interior is important to me since that’s where you spend the time. We have a base RAV4 with cloth seats and basic factory stereo and it’s just a boring appliance that I avoid driving.

What trim are others buying? Are you happy with the trim you chose?

Here's the graphic for available seats per trim:

I've personally ordered an Iconic trim since I want all the bells and whistles, but you should be able to do Signature + with the Cross-Punch leather seats for an additional $550 (I chose Cross-Punch in my Iconic).

If you are able to convince that dealer to fully charge your SE, you will make it home without having to stop to charge (especially if you live in southern California where it's always warm). This guy went 177 miles on a single charge .

Single charge 177 miles ?.. 15 miles/HR speed or hill was as high as Everest ?

Just go with Iconic. I also added in the MINI yours lounge leather (was $500 for 2022), not having seen it before, and it's REALLY nice (apparently it's the leather previously used on the BMW 7-Series; maybe they had leftovers). I, too, love having leather, but have never actually had black in a car. With the panoramic sunroof and the electric trim dash (which hasn't shown ANY dust in 500 miles) I don't feel that it's dark at all inside, which I worried about. And the HK speakers make a big difference from the stock I test-drove. I'm planning on getting ceramic for the roof, and tinting the rest of the windows, but haven't priced it out yet so can't comment on the dealer offer. Happily my dealer didn't charge anything but the destination fee ($850) and didn't push anything else. I would be inclined to go with a place that was similarly-minded, if it's practical for you.

Sorry to sidetrack the thread but I wasn’t able to see the Electric Interior Trim and Mini Yours Lounge seats. Would you mind sending some pictures my way of yours when you can? I’d love to see some better shots of them. I selected the electric trim but went with the cords-punch seats since I liked them in the tester I drove.

Sure thing! My dealer had never actually seen the electric trim until mine arrived either...my only preference would've been for it to have replaced the piano black door trim as well. It's a matte back base with piano black and E-yellow markings. The seats have some nice little Union Jack motifs with a perforated headrest and a couple little emblems. Thank you!!

Im glad you clarified the door trim is still piano black with the electric dash trim. My salesman didn’t know, and now I’m wondering if the aluminum trim would give me the aluminum door trims… I like the electric dash, but I’m more interested in the least piano black possible inside.

Good question! Aluminum trim wasn't available for SE when I ordered, when I was doing sample builds with the ICE MINI S it appeared that the only surface changed was the dash, not the doors. I do have to say I don't even notice the PB on the doors, since they're not direct LOS

Yea, I’m torn now haha

The Electric Collection SE I test drove had the kind of checkered aluminum dash trim and smooth aluminum door trims, which I enjoyed. Of course the online builder isn’t updated so no one really knows how 23 builds will actually show up.

Well take your pick between scratched plastic or dented aluminum door trim. You can always replace them.

Also a great point!! I forgot about the aluminum denting!! Just went back to not caring about PB door trim! [emoji38]
Yes you have to be careful of flying seatbelt buckle clips. Less of an issue for the MINI but can be an issue with cars with seatbelt arm extenders.

It I not the seats or radio that make that CRV drive like an appliance. It's the fact that the vehicle was designed to drive like an appliance. If it looks like an appliance, drives like am appliance.....

Yes it is an appliance with or without leather.
