View attachment 14100 CNET reported that there have been 8 price increases this year. The Y now costs $17K more that it did a year ago. They’ll need to exercise caution so as not to price the car right out of the, as written, incentive program. It’s now at $61K, and I reckon a few options could put it over $69.
Actually, if one compares apples to apples, the price of the Model Y that’s available for sale today (long range version) is up $10k in past year; Base price is $58990 as of today’s Tesla website.
Unfortunately CNET used very sloppy journalism in it’s piece, which was parroted by other websites. CNET conflated the standard Model Y, which was available only for a few weeks in January of this year, at a price of $39,990, (dropped because the standard range was under 280 miles) with the long range version which started the year at $48,990.
The proposed federal incentive has changed quite a bit from the one you quoted. Gone are the limitations based on price below $80,000. Senate will modify the House version and a final version is yet to be hammered out; however, it does appear that Tesla and GM will be included.
