Rear 12 volt socket doesn’t auto shut off?

Why does the rear 12 volt socket not turn off like the front one when you leave the vehicle?
I found this out the hard way after noticing my rear dash came was still recording video at 1am when I exited the car at 7pm in my garage. The front dash cam auto shut off 3 min after I turn off the car.

Probably stays on because they expect you to use that outlet for the tire inflator?

Maybe the rear 12 volt stays on while the car is charging? I’ll have to see what happens tonight when I’m not charging

The Motorer's Guide says the "lighter socket" can be used when standby and drive-ready state are switched on. It also identifies the cargo area socket, but says nothing about when it's powered, so maybe it is always active.

Thanks for reminding me. I just went out to my SE (last driven yesterday and turned off since then) and plugged my tire inflator into both the cabin and trunk 12-V outlets to return the tire pressures to spec.

Did some testing and the trunk 12V outlet does turn off!

If the car is locked, it turns off after ~5min
If the car is left unlocked, it turns off after ~15min

@Mini Monster did your car happen to be plugged in? The behavior might be different when charging.

To add to the above, it also turns on whenever any door is opened.

Yes, my car was charging overnight so that may be why the rear 12 volt never tuned off.

Thanks! I thought I remembered my trunk outlet turning off after about 15 minutes, but was surprised the other day when it was powered up more than a day after I previously drove my SE. I'd opened the door to use the front outlet to reinflate my tires, and that must have turned on the outlets.

More info:
The rear outlet does turn on and stays on while charging but turns off when charging stops.

It turns on again for 5 minutes when the charger is unplugged.

I also discovered that whenever I shut the hatch, my rear glass mounted dashcam thinks I got in a crash and permanently saves that video. I guess I'll have to go through and delete them every couple of months!
