So what would you rather have -2 years makes us lucky?
FYI, about the Ioniq 5 heat pump.
Do we know anything about heat pump availability in NA cars?
Precisely what I will anticipate will happen late 2022 when the 6 and 7 versions will probably be available to order (if not out already). By then more will be known about the 5, (the goods and the not so goods), so I will wait patiently. I am no longer going to pre-order, after what happened to Kona EV (excluding the battery folding anode issue), brake noises, coolant pumps cracking, motor and gearbox replacements, blank dash screen software issues, etc. Let the first released models get sorted out then I may consider pending the outcome. There are not enough 350 kW DC fast chargers in Canada anyways to take full advantage of the 800 V charging technology this year, hopefully that will be addressed as well.![]()
https://www.hyundainews.com/en-us/models/hyundai-ioniq_5-2022-ioniq_5/overview "IONIQ 5 will initially be sold in Hyundai stores in the 10 zero-emissions vehicle (ZEV) stateshttps://www.hyundainews.com/en-us/models/hyundai-ioniq_5-2022-ioniq_5/overview#_edn1 plus Texas, Fla., Ill., Ga., NC, Pa, and Ariz. followed by a broader rollout in 2022."@Tony S,
I maybe wrong but I thought Hyundai and Kia EVs have only been sold in CARB states.
With EVs the maintenance is a lot less so needing to get work done is maybe once a year thing.
That is what a Specification Sheet shows that was posted in one of these threads. The US will not know until they share that with this market.I am not sure if this is confirmed but I thought I saw someone say it was only available on the limited version. I hope that is not the case.
Got a call from Hyundai Concierge moments ago. He stated any specification sheets seen to date (7/1/21) are from other markets because the US hasn't been published yet. He also noted my NC zip code to not be among the states IONIQ 5 is offered in initially. Their Media Center News Room I posted above still has NC on there and that is what was officially announced in the IONIQ 5 reveal streamed event but they don't mesh with the reservation site. He also confirmed the Insider program details aren't aligning with the reservation web site flow. So is the web site out of date in multiple ways in what is required to reserve and which states are set to get them first? Is the media center and event announcement wrong? Is ZEV used so Hyundai can leverage higher MSRP against the monies from local municipalities and well as federal tax reductions?
I told the attendant that I didn't want to tie of the deposit for multiple years and if he could confirm the states that it's initially released in I would be appreciative. The Concierge said they have had similar requests but have not received an answer. Does this mean if demand is/remains high; ZEV states get the big MSRP and a few hand picked states would get declined vehicles from ZEV states or a small percentage of the US allotment?
Ultra charging speeds for our occasional road trips would be nice but not enough to over pay a limited supply price that the Hyundai dealers may not be able to service. I would've though this path would've been paved already with Ioniq and Kona but apparently not. Unfortunately there is no benefit of being one of the first reservation holders in the US just after the web site went live and possibly a negative effect in Hyundai's demand/supply MSRP calculations. Thoughts? My apologies for possibly inflating the price to future owners.

No pricing even though costs and supply are known which leaves demand as the final element to calculate.Did they tell you the pricing? I haven't heard of pricing anywhere.
By the time they arrive in the U.S., there should be some indication of build quality from other countries. Sometimes it's good to go last.I am no longer going to pre-order, after what happened to Kona EV (excluding the battery folding anode issue), brake noises, coolant pumps cracking, motor and gearbox replacements, blank dash screen software issues, etc. Let the first released models get sorted out then I may consider pending the outcome.
Oh my. Read the fine print. There's zero pricing guarantees with a pre-order. Actually there's zero ANY guarantees, price, trim, colour, even the actual build happening. Pricing is done by the dealer. Hyundai's (eventual) MSRP announcement is a floor not a ceiling.By the time they arrive in the U.S., there should be some indication of build quality from other countries. The advantage of pre-ordering, as I understand it, is that you get to spec the car, pick your dealer, and pay MSRP.
Any other Ioniq 5's will likely have a hefty markup over MSRP, and you'll have to take the configuration on the lot and beat everyone else to it. There's no telling how long it'll be before the pricing simmers down, and there'll still be the problem of getting the color and options you want.
I was thinking about it, but first thought I'd check out their email link by asking two questions regarding the deposit. The email was returned to me as undeliverable, so I did not go any further. I try to check out the 'customer service' end of things first before doing business with a company. Could have been a bad link in their page; I might try calling the phone number listed and find how that works.Anyone else put down $100 deposit for the Ioniq 5 this afternoon?
I didn't see an option for which model or color to select until after I put in my CC info. Anyone else have that issue? It could have been just user error.
Thanks.
Scott
After talking with a Hyundai concierge just now, I agree that we won't have any influence over trim or color. It sounded like the cars will be allocated to the dealers, not to us. Our pre-order just gets us on a priority list to either pick the dealer's best match to what we want, or else wait for something else to come in.Oh my. Read the fine print.
