Just bought an ID4!

I have had my ID4 first edition for almost week now. I'm learning something new about it every day. I'll take any tips or tricks you guys have. I'm from Kentucky, so EV experiences and advise are hard to come by locally. This forum will be a great help.

I currently have software 792. Do I need to update? I do know about the 2.1 update coming for most of us around September.

I watch a lot of YouTube, any recommendations for ID4 content and guides.

I was thinking of buying "A Better Route Planner" premium upgrade. Is that worth the 59.99 annual charge.

Any other apps or tools should I get to make. I do plan on using this car on some road trips.

Almost forgot, probably the most important!!!! What paperwork do I need from dealer to get my EV tax credit.

For federal tax credit, you don't need much more than the VIN. For state, it will depend on the state, of course.

VW has a series of short YouTube videos that introduce various features. Worth watching if you haven't already found them.
 
The 792 version is 2.1. It is 2.3 that is coming in the fall.

I don't know about the premium ABRP. I guess it depends on how many road trips you end up taking. Once you are more familiar with charging spots and get used to trips, you may find less of a need for the thing.

I have yet to take a long road trip. Mostly local, with a few day trips, and for that I don't really need a route planning tool.
 
I prefer PlugShare over A Better Rout planer. It free so I recommend trying both and see which you like best. Then if you still prefer A Better Rout Planer you can upgrade.

Bjorn Nyland has a link for a month off the premium ABRP in one of his videos a coupla months ago that would allow you to evaluate its worth for you.

Thanks for sharing. I saw my first one on the road here in Tallahassee Florida the other day and it looked great out in the wild. Looking forward to hearing more about your ownership experience.

With apologies to @James R Cook for hijacking his thread, I'll offer a brief report on my experience thus far. I feel I really ought to write it up in a longer article...

The take-away for me is that it's a marvelous EV for non-EV drivers.

And I mean that as a compliment.

Looking back, the first wave of EVs have been for the early adopters, and perhaps the car-enthusiasts in a particular niche — primarily performance. And Tesla in particular has marketed and appealed to them extremely well.

But there are a lot more non-EV drivers than EV-enthusiasts. People who want a car to reliably and comfortably get them from A to B (and back). And, gimmicky though it is in some respects (it sometimes feels like VW hired Citroën's designers from the 80's out of retirement to have one last party) it delivers on that.

I've had a Ford Fusion Hybrid, three Volts, a Bolt, and most recently a Kona EV. Granted the actual physical comfort of the vehicle may have some effect (I have a back problem that makes some seats and seating positions painful), but the ID.4 is the first car since the Fusion in which I've really just relaxed and enjoyed the ride rather than being constantly engrossed in the details of power management and drive mode.

No paper work for tax credit. My tax program went through a list of possible tax credits that are available. One asked if I purchased an electric vehicle in that tax year. I answered yes and it asked for the vehicle make and model and VIN #. than applied the credit to my tax return. I would think that all tax programs would do the same.
