Thank you for this!
Did you know about the trip odometer button behind the digital binnacle in the upper left "corner"? I didn't for a long time, and even the motoring guide does a poor job of describing it.Next subject: Here I give you the nominees for Most Well-Hidden Controls on the Mini SE:

Thanks for sharing! Newbie question - what are the homelinks buttons for?I hope you all don’t mind updates on this model as I work through the features. Active Cruise Control update: We went for another ride at dusk tonight, and as soon as we turned into the sun, the active cruise control went out. So I am sure Mini would not consider this a “problem”, as it is mentioned in the user manual. But I can verify that a long press of either of the “follow distance” buttons on the steering wheel actives regular cruise control, and it works fine. So a valid work around for the limitations of the camera-based system.

Runner Up:
The three Homelink buttons under the left side of the rear view mirror.

Grand Champion:
The completely invisible Heated Steering Wheel button! I totally forgot I even had it. Finally remembered today that I had not tested it yet and tracked the button down on the left side of the steering wheel, under the steering wheel adjustment arm.

Thanks. Well, I don't have a garage so guess I'll have no use of themGarage door opener.
The green light is only for resetting the system. My instructions call it an orange light. Mine also mentions press and hold as well as releasing. Did they change the wording? I used the manual both times to set it up with my cars and it worked the first time. Also used the manual to release my info from the car before I sold it.The homelink programming instructions in the manual are incorrect. I had to resort to a youtube video to find the correct steps. The manual mentions a green light, but the light is yellow! And it is unclear (reading the manual) about whether you are supposed to "press and release" or "press and hold" the button at certain points. But youtube fixed me up. Works well now.
Admittedly I did this months ago and had no issues. I do not recall being confused by the light colors. It's really freezing out for April and I'd have to find my opener again,so not really in the mood to try. I also admit I'm of the type to not question and move on, but I blame that on my IT background. As long as it tests and it works, I am fine. Could be BMWs also change colors. I really don't notice? Just for me the manual was enough to get me taken care of.My LED never turned green at any point. The 2022 manual is wrong on several counts (page 200):
(1) In step 2 it says to press and hold the two buttons until it flashes green rapidly to erase previous programming. It flashed orange rapidly for me, so I thought I was doing something wrong.
(2) In step 3 it says to "press" the homelink button you are going to program and it will flash orange slowly. It actually requires a "press and hold" to get it to flash slowly for programming. (the step for pressing the transmitter button correctly says "press and hold")
(3) In step 6 (while you are pressing and holding both the homelink and transmitter buttons) it says the LED lights up green when programming is completed, and if it flashes "fast" programming is not complete. The actual result is the LED flashes orange fast when programming is successful, and there is no green indicator at all.
I watched the youtube video titled "Mini USA | Garage Door Opener", post date Aug 2, 2018, and those steps matched up to what I experienced. It's weird that this has changed!
I actually have yet to use my touchscreen at all. Partially because I didn't have one before and know the iDrive system that well and partially because I hate finger prints.
That does look great though!
I agree, very user friendly. Granted I've been using it for a long time, but I don't even need to look down to use. I have a bad feeling this will keep me in BMWs and Mini for a long time. I cannot think of a system that I felt worked better.I couldn't remember "iDrive" when I was typing that post! I have never had it before, but I love it! Very user friendly.

@GvilleGuy's CarPlay screen does look like a thing of beauty. @Puppethead, how much smaller is CarPlay on your screen? Do you think there will ever be software updates for our ancient gen-1 SEs? I don't know anything about BMW/MINI's history on software updates for their infotainment systems. Being an Android user, MINI has already dissed my phone, despite the overwhelming preponderance of Android phones in use.CarPlay works better with touch, so I use the iDrive button for SE things and touch for CarPlay. Now I have to figure out how to get the new software installed, it seems to have full-screen CarPlay.
