Ok, I think we can say now that the 23rd is a solid go. Can't wait to hear your opinions about it once we all the info and images are out.

Honestly I haven't watched more than a few Hyundai Motor's World Premieres to know if they are going to give early access to an YouTube reviewers. There are a lot of details with regards to the seat layout that would most likely not be covered by Hyundai at the World Premiere video. Would be nice to see a walk though video sooner than later. Nissan with the Ariya did a bad job of having months between the world premiere and walk through videos.

Anyone in the US seen anything from Hyundai USA on being able to pre-order one early next week? I have seen posts over in Germany seeming like they will be able to pre-order a special "45" edition of the Ioniq 5. Which is limited to 3000 cars world wide.

Nothing at all about pre-order. At least they do show the Ioniq 5 on the Hyundai USA page so at least for now Hyundai is still hoping to sell it in the US.

Where are you from? Saw a post from someone on the Ioniq 5 FB group and they also received an official email confirming the 23rd as well as the live stream being from Hyundai Germany. Hopefully this is true and Autogefühl will be able to do a work around video.
 
Also saw people posting about there being only 3,000 of the "First Edition" pre-order vehicles for Europe. The fact that North America is not mentioned at all probably means that none will be coming here.
 
Hi from the UK - I've been waiting for this since I saw the prototype "45 pony car" a couple of years ago, but after seeing the photos of the Hyundai chief taking a ride in one last friday, (pic since disappeared),the excitement has dwindled slightly.
It revealed what I sought of already knew, that it comes with conventional opening doors - the Starship Enterprise Sliders remain purely on the concept car.
It also revealed a glimpse of what looked like square "mirror" monitors just on the inside of the front doors - & they seemed pretty out of place & "clunky" - lets hope they were early versions.
Anyway, I'll have my wallet at the ready at 7am tomorrow morning just in case the price overcompensates - {they say that 3000 available from 7:30 on a first come basis}
If not, I'll hold out for the BMW i4 release in the Autumn

One thing that stood out (in a bad way) from that article is the 0-100 km/h time of 8.5 seconds for the smaller battery RWD version. If that is accurate, that is pretty poor. It states that this model has a motor rated for 125 kW (and just 350 Nm of torque), which is significantly less than the Hyundai Kona EV (150 kW, 395 Nm). The stated battery capacity is 58 kWh, compared to the 64 kWh battery in the Kona. It seems odd that the single motor power output for the IONIQ 5 is so much less than the Kona considering what should be significant advances in the design and technology of the motor, per what was stated in the E-GMP presentation. I have to say that if these specs are accurate, this would be a big step back performance wise for the IONIQ 5, not a good look when this is supposed to be the new halo car for Hyundai.

Yes, the AWD version is much faster, but I would have thought that the base model would not lose out that much compared to the Kona or the eNiro. And yes, I completely understand that the IONIQ 5 is much larger, which then leads me to ask why the RWD motor seems too underpowered for the size of vehicle.
 
The base model may be the same price or cheaper than the Kona. Which you are getting a much bigger car for. Not to mention much faster dc fast charging rates.

I currently drive an eGolf which is even slower and I am fine with that.
 
Okay, I did a bit of spec comparison and it looks like the base IONIQ 5 has the same power as the middle pack VW ID4 (125 kW) and it has the same 8.5 sec 0-100 km/h time as the larger battery ID4. And the AWD models for both cars have the same 225 kW total output. So it seems like Hyundai did its homework and is at least comparable in specs with its closest competitor.

Which means that for North American (or US at least) markets Hyundai will likely only bring over the larger battery RWD and AWD models, just like VW.
