How to reserve your ID.4

The VW ID.4 is coming before the end of the year and will be available in all 50 states. If you want to be among the first to own one, here's how the reservations work.

Volkswagen will launch a reservation website on September 23, just after the 11:00 AM official reveal of the car. Reservations are made there for a refundable $100. It will have several shopping tools, including a range estimator, payment tool, and dealer selection.

When vehicle production begins, you will get an invitation to lock your configuration and confirm the order. That will require an additional $400 deposit.

Customers can track the progress of their order -- from reservation to delivery -- through the site. Finally, customers can "transact" (read: negotiate) with their dealer and complete their purchase. I understand all of your deposits remain refundable until you accept the dealer's offer.

I might put in a deposit as a backup if other EVs I am looking at for late 2021 fall through. I will have to see how fast they update their software especially for Apple CarPlay first before I would continue the process.

Just learned that the ID..4 will initially be launched with rear-wheel drive, while an electric all-wheel drive version will be added a later date. So, that might be something to keep in mind.

Seems a little odd they are releasing the RWD models first, usually manufactures offer their top end model for pre-order and follow up with the lesser cost variations later in the production cycle.
