Mirrors pointing down when backing?

We just bought a Niro EV EX. When we put the vehicle in reverse the mirrors tilt downward. Any clue why this is? Is there a setting to prevent this. There seems to be a setting for everything else but we can't find this one.

First, congrats on the car! It's great to see them finally shipping to customers in Canada and the U.S.

I believe the mirrors tipping downward is a feature to help you see parking space lines more easily to help you park. I'm not sure how this feature can be deactivated, but we do have a couple other owners on the Forum who may chime in. Failing that, I can reach out to Kia.

Did a little reading. Apparently, if you put the left/right side mirror toggle in the middle/neutral position, it turns off the auto-tilt. Let us know if that works for you.

Thank you. We'll check it out. The manual is so thick it'll take ages to get through.

I love the feature as it shows the area of the vehicle that you may be close to colliding. Domenick is correct, you just put the switch in the middle and it is deactivated.
 
Do you happen to know if this feature is available everywhere? I just picked up an EX Premium (in California, USA), and while it mentions this feature in the manual, it doesn't actually do anything in my car. I also don't see it mentioned in the features list on the Kia website, although maybe it's too small of a detail to include there.
 
I would ask your dealer, if you put the switch to left or right, the mirrors turn down on reverse. I am also using my memory seat settings that include mirrors. If you don't have the memory seat settings, it may not have the feature. I don't know why they need to change the vehicle for Canada/US?
 
OK, maybe the reverse feature is somehow tied to the seat/mirror memory feature, which as far as I can tell, is not available on the US version of the Niro EV :(
 
Many cars in this class have 360 degree bird's eye view to make parking easier. Bolt EV, Nissan Leaf, Polestar2, etc.
Turning the side mirrors would seem like the least they could do. Makes no sense it's not standard on all trims and markets.
 
My 2020 Niro EV with Premium package does not have the mirror tilt in reverse, pretty frustrating, since all my other cars have it. I would concur probably part of the seat memory package that I likewise could not get.

This feature is pure software and costs them nothing, especially if they already offered it in the past on this Niro model. Maybe the servos moving the mirrors are not precise enough to get repeatable results and the positions would drift over time? Or maybe too many warranty claims over failed mirrors from getting adjusted too much? Did they keep the automatic folding feature? Must be some logical reason they removed it.
 
Actually that may not be correct, the "memory" is most likely stored in a local module, and adding the extra computing power and memory would cost more. I run a company that does indeed make hardware and firmware for embedded systems. Remember when you make things in millions, and you save $2 a car, a $2 million saving is easy to come by.

Yes. Move the front switch, ahead of the mirror adjustment switches to auto. However, keep it tilting down since you'll appreciate seeing raised concrete curbs in your mirrors that will avoid you getting ugly scars on your aluminum wheels.
 
In my 2016 VW Golf (base model) I used a coding tool to activate this option. It worked but when the mirror went back up it didn’t know where to go. It was always slightly off. Normally this option is bundled with memory seats, because the mirror needs to memorize the original position before dipping down.
