This seems like almost a dumb question but I really don’t know the answer. For the US federal EVSE tax credit, can I buy an EVSE every year? I bought one this year and plan to file for the credit. But say I want a portable one next year, could I do that and get the credit again?
You can take the tax credit every year, and can buy multiple EVSEs in a single year but your 30% credit is capped at $1K. Right now, you cannot get a tax credit for an EVSE purchased next year as the current incentive expires at the end of the year. Congress may or may not extend it or come up with a different incentive.
This brings an interesting question to my mind. Do you need to own a EV to put up a charging station to get the credit for a home. Let us say I want to buy a EV but not this year, but would rather put something generic enough so that I can buy a car next year. Again, hypothetical,. but would that work?
