Is this where the need is greatest? How many of the disadvantaged are going to buy EVs, esp with inflation raging and "real" incomes dropping?

How does this support the green economy, when EV infrastructure money is diverted from where it is needed the most to where it is needed least? One of the biggest complaints from those that want (and can afford) to buy an EV is lack of charging infrastructure. We need to get high polluting SUVs and trucks off the road, not give them reason to stay status quo.[/QUOTE]
I guess we will have to agree to disagree.

You are assuming that no used EVs are in their price range. You assume that there isn't any rebates for low income and that no car sharing programs exist. You assume that everyone is low income.

You are assuming that disadvantaged areas don't attract folks from outside that area. I think you might be surprised to see that happens more than you think. Isn't one of the big beefs is that there isn't any charging network outside of the metro areas? Look at all the purple on the map.

It's the right thing to do since many of the these many of these disadvantage areas take on a disproportional burden of high levels of pollution. EVgo says they believe in serving disadvantaged areas. They have made some progress. https://www.evgo.com/evgo-equal-access-charging-hub-each/

I will agree that many of the these areas will be underused initially, but this is a 10 year project. Over the next 10 years, things will change. The federal government isn't going to shoot their wad all at once.

  3. That's the only part of your post that I agree with... I'm all with helping disadvantage people. But this is not the best way to do it.

We can start by building purpose built low income rental apartments in every affluent neighbourhood with Level 2 and DC fast charging. That will address increasing the tax base, EV charging, and affordability. A win for everyone!
