My 2023 delivered in July has loose shutters on the left... I wonder if they'll be able to do it tomorrow...

This is ridiculous. Are the dealerships not reporting this problem up the chain of command?

My SA appeared to have never encountered the issue before, and didn’t acknowledge there was a bulletin out about it. The work order is still open, so I haven’t seen the final report yet, but I’ll let you know if the tech adds a bulletin number to it after it’s sorted. Because it’s a broken part replacement now, I’d think it won’t show up with a bulletin, though.

Like I posted a couple of weeks ago,

"Mini Oxford - get your production process fixed, or make sure the parts are molded correctly so they fit properly, or fix your vision system checks. (we do all these things at work)"

I'm in management for a Tier 1 supplier here in the US and we would lose our quality supplier status for something like this reoccurring this frequently with no real fix. We would notify our customer and the Tier 2 supplier to us would have to retool their molds, etc to ensure it fits correctly, plus we would have to add extra quality checks and if needed change our procedures to ensure it doesn't happen.

My dealer popped mine back in today. They had not encountered this issue before. They were unaware of any bulletin. It was done as a courtesy, not under warranty...
Somebody needs to give Mini USA and Oxford a good kick about this. Mine had only done a few hundred miles when I first noticed it, so I'm awful skeptical it popped out when I hit something, as the dealer thought happened.

No, I asked, they don't pass stuff like this back up.

I sent a message to the Plant Oxford 'tour' email detailing how many owners are experiencing this problem, asking them to please forward it to someone in the production group. I doubt it will reach anyone, but I tried.

My AGS assembly was secure on both sides when this thread started. Both left and right subsequently became detached.

My local dealership couldn't fix it even though I left the car overnight. They had never encountered this problem and have no guidance as to how to repair it.

It's not something I want to try fixing myself. I hope no permanent damage is being done by continuing to drive with the AGS loose.

    Here is the fix: https://www.insideevsforum.com/community/index.php?threads/2022-mini-se-in-focus-active-grill-shutters.12209/page-4#post-162245

It is pretty easy to do and shocking that a dealer couldn't figure it out. Having it loose won't cause any damage however. It will just hurt aero a bit and reduce range a bit. If you park your car outside in the winter, it may take a bit longer to warm up to get full power.

I left two VMs with my SA this week, and she finally called me back yesterday to tell me that they still haven’t received the complete shutter assembly that she thought would arrive last Friday. So once the parts department tells her they’ve received the part, she will contact me to set up an appointment. It’s bad enough that I naively chose a terrible dealership, but this is really discouraging. My smart went back to the dealership within the first week because of a faulty low pressure fuel pump that was knocking around in the tank, and I was without the car for over a week, and it was an omen of things to come. It was probably back at the dealership 25 times during the 48 month warranty, and I had it on jackstands at least another 20 times over the following 11 years.

Is the part revised? If not, it will do the same thing and pop out.

No idea. When I sat there, doing nothing at the dealership for 6 1/2 hours last week, I was given no real information until they sent me on my way, saying that the shutter part itself was broken. They were trying to track down a whole new shutter anywhere in Canada.

Just took delivery of mine on Saturday. Didn't check for it being loose when picking up, thought everything would be OK. Nope, discovered yesterday driver's side is loose, taking in tomorrow morning to have it looked at.

They really need to put this on the PDI

Took delivery almost 12 weeks ago, and was finally in to attempt to sort the AGS issue three weeks ago, still not a peep about an ETA for the new shutters.

They really do... If the factory isn't going to acknowledge there's a problem and resolve it during production, there should be a notice to dealers...

It’s been just ever a year since GvilleGuy first posted this issue in this thread. I can’t believe this is still going on. It makes me wonder how a really serious problem would be dealt with.

I know this forum is old but I’m glad that I found it because it’s still an issue. I just picked up my 2023 mini SE and it’s loose on the drivers side. Thank you for making this post I contracted my salesman and he is going to get ahold of service and get it looked at!

We need to keep this thread updated as long as it continues to happen. I'm glad it helped!
