I very rarely need to charge away from home, but one day later this week I'm going on a much longer than usual day trip and I'm going to to need to add about 25 kwh in order to make it home. I'm planning to stop at a 150kw Electrify America station. Looks like the ambient temperature will be slightly above freezing, and the charging session will be immediately after driving at freeway speeds for about 30 minutes (the reason I mention that is perhaps driving at highway speeds tends to warm the battery a bit?) The Owner's Manual suggests using Winter Mode when the high voltage battery temperature is "low", but does not define what "low" is. My question is should I turn on Winter Mode to preheat the battery before reaching the charge station (in order to maximize the charging speed), and if yes, how long before I reach the charge station should I turn it on? Thanks in advance for your help.

With winter mode ON the battery heater will come ON if the SOC is less than 33% and battery temp is -5 degC or less. It goes off when battery reaches 5 degC. This seems to be for conditioning the battery for an eventual stop to a fast DC charger.
I would say you either turn it on or off for the whole trip (or really for the entire time you own the car). There is no need for you, the user, to be figuring out when to turn it on during any specific trip. It activities when the computer thinks it needs to.

Thanks. If it's all automatic I wonder why the owners manual specifically tells you to "use it". Unfortunately our owners manuals are not as clear as could be.
