This morning I noticed a maybe 6 inch crack in the windshield driver's side upper left radiating straight down from the edge of the roof trim. I don't recall rocks or debris while driving and the car is garaged. Doesn't look like any chips or dents or damage, just a clean break.

Have there been any reports of spontaneous cracking of these windshields?

I had to replace mine in my 22, but it was from a small chip. I should've sealed it that evening, bc the next morning it grew halfway down the windshield and I ended paying >$700, instead of $15.

Buying a sealing kit now to have just in case...

Glass coverage via auto policy for my SE was minimal compared to the rest of the policy. Is glass coverage an option in most states?

I do have the optional full glass coverage, $24 a year I think.

From reading ICE forums, it seems there are some instances of stress cracks which are covered under warranty. I've read there is a pen used to find chips that are evidence of a stone impact. If found, no warranty.

I also read that putting a bit of packing tape over the crack can keep it from growing.

I have a crack in my windshield in the same spot as described, but mine certainly started from a nice rock hit. Interesting that this seems to be a weak point in the windshields in general though.
