Curious to hear what your thoughts are on the Best EV Car (Sedan/Coupe/Hatchback) on the market and why?
-> see the Best SUV List here.

What factors do you look at when comparing models?

  • Price point?
  • Design?
  • Features?
  • Range?
  • MPGe?
  • Performance / Fun to Drive factor?
  • Off-road capabilities?
  • Self-driving capabilities?
  • Warranty?
  • Expected Life?
  • Charging Credits or Compatibility?
  • Brand Recognition or status?

Here's a list of Some models to choose from:
  • Audi S e-tron GT
  • Audi A6 e-tron / S6 e-tron / A6 Sportback E-Tron / S6 Sportback E-Tron
  • BMW i4
  • BMW i5
  • BMW i7
  • Dodge Charger Daytona EV

  • Nissan Leaf
  • Polestar 2
  • Porsche Taycan EV
  • Tesla Model S
  • Tesla Model 3
  • Toyota Murai
  • Volvo ES90

My requirements are:
  • Lowest operational expense - maximum travel for lowest travel expense
  • Driver automation - growing older, let automation handle the mind numbing drudgery
  • Tunable - applied engineering, my hobby
Current interest is a used, 2024 Tesla Model 3. Autopilot is sufficient. My 2019 Model 3 replaces my 2017 BMW i3-REx and the 2024 becomes my long distance, road warrior. With a home solar roof, drive one while the other solar charges.

I have a 2023 Ioniq 6 and it is still the best trip car that I know of, as per Edmunds tests.
It has good range and most importantly has very fast DC charging. It is also very efficient with low MPGe and low COD so electricity costs per mile are less. And it is a very comfortable car to drive long distances and has great driver assist to ease stress and tiring on long trips. Plus I like how it looks. I still get lots of compliments from people I meet in parking lots.

If by chance it would get totalled, I would replace it with the exact same car, just the latest model year.

Now that MINI has decided not to bring MINI Cooper SE production back to Plant Oxford in the UK, Porsche's long-in-coming electric 718 Boxster and Cayman appear to be the only hope for another small, fun BEV in the US--but, sadly, at a Porsche price.
