Can be done. @bwilson4web you may like this. If you are in a flood zone and have lost power, and have a generator, may be an option.

Not really eco-friendly or quiet, but will it work in a pinch?

It's not a question of whether or not you can charge a Tesla, or any electric car, with a generator — or a portable unit in this particular case. It's a question of how much range you can get over a period of time, as well as how much gas you may need to burn to get add a reasonable number of miles.


This is definitely something that many hardcore EV hardcore fans will frown upon for obvious reasons. Not to mention it's SO LOUD.
 
First off, my only objection is they went 'cheap' instead of a real engine with good generator. Start with the Range Extender and generator of a BMW i3-REx. Now you're talking some serious power and charge rates. Better still, a hobby turbine with a smart, DC generator.
