Look around in the US, there are still way more cars on the road than anything else. US preferences are not that much different than in the rest of the world. This is being inflated and conflated to try to ICE and fossil fuel defeats and delay further permanent corrections to their valuations in the US.
1. This is BS the shill media is pushing about a switch to trucks and SUVs in the US is to hide the foregone defeat of Ford and GM. Its also part of hiding how badly Tesla beat BMW in the US- BMW's claims about its X series SUV sales numbers are laughable, just have to look at Southern California to see its pure BS because we almost never see those.
2. Its also a scam to cheat the emissions rules on the part of GM and Ford core role as being part of the fossil fuel retail chain. It is an effort to force the public to buy heavier higher drag vehicles to push of fossil fuel consumption in the face of declines.
Look at the history of vehicles in the US and globally. People do not buy more than they need. Were station wagons all that popular? Same reasons trucks and SUVs don't sell that well on their own. Minivans make more sense. Again this is about trying to force people to buy more gas. Wish the Consumer Protection Bureau would expose their bs. And get real, there is no such thing as cheap gas (gas is never a good value) and its never cheap even in the so called gluts (which are hyper subsidized.) Even if you don't see the cost in the US as much at the pump (real cost is closer to the UK's $9 a liter) you do see it in the subsidies and lost public services, you do pay for it elsewhere and its gone up faster than wages and is prone to massive price increases over night in an unpredictable way so it cannot ever be called cheap as for value it sucks no matter how much they finance especially if you include the externalities which not even the $9 per liter in the UK does. So again the idea of cheap gas is idiotic and a tale told by idiots because it was never cheap even in the US where it is hyper subsidized and gets more expensive at the worst of times and is prone to stay that way. And the people who push these lies feel righteously entitled to lie to the public as if it were a public service.
