I knew about the SE in 2019 when it was reviewed pre-production. I saw a news report from the head of BMW saying that the SE was coming to Australia and immediately rang the local MINI dealer. They hadn't heard that we were getting them - they rang head office who confirmed it. I put a deposit down immediately (in January 2020). The contract was "subject to test drive" which I managed in late July. It took till September to get the little beast. So count me as one of those who ordered sight unseen based on reviews of pre-production cars. Would my decision change with what I know now? Not a chance :)

You're the only person I know of who had to wait longer than I did (51 weeks) after ordering.

We waited 32 weeks - and that seemed LOOONG
You actually did wait longer. I ordered in September 2019, but production models did not find their way into customers' hands until the next March. So I waited only 24 weeks after production for customers began.

Makes my 13 week wait (from deposit date) seem trivial. And mine had a 30-day delay with the model year switch. So the order date to delivery was 9 weeks.
