Tesla Model S Plaid is the fastest production car ever. Your views?

Tesla model s plaid has broken all previous records of production cars and electric cars. Do you think there is any car out there that can beat Tesla??

The same people who would purchase BMW i4 M50, Porsche Taycan, Audi e-tron GT. Not everyone wants a boring SUV/Crossover.
At least those cars also come with some comfort, luxury interior/features and ride quality. All that Tesla has is raw power. Doesn't even have Android Auto or Carplay. So very much doubt if German luxury car owners would be so quick to buy such an expensive Tesla, or even lust for one, just for 1 less second to get to 60 mph.

If you want lane choice, this would be a good start. My 2019 STD Rng Plus Model 3 does this everyday … in Chill mode.

I’m not in the market for another EV. Perhaps when my wife’s 2014 BMW i3-REx gives up the ghost.

Upon further review:
  • LiON 12V battery - saves weight and due to improved BMS, longer life than lead-acid expected.
  • Yoke steering wheel - minimizes blocking the above steering shaft display
  • User Interface - appears to be more designed to use the screen estate
There may be others in addition to the significant drivetrain improvements. Carbon fiber wrapped rotor leads to higher efficiency across all speed ranges with peak rpm ~20,000. Also, there has been a significant flattening of the power curve at higher speed.

I'm warming up to it. Even the yoke steering thingy. Yeah, it's quicker than supercars, but it's also a great evolution of the Tesla interior esthetic and UI. Found this video pretty informative and a decent watch. It's still not perfect -- but it's a pretty great improvement over the previous Model S. One thing not touched on in the video: faster charging.

Also like the new interior. Would be happy even with the Long Range version2021_Tesla_Model_S_17.webp
Three Displays
With 2200x1300 resolution, ultra-bright colors and exceptional responsiveness, the new center display is an ideal touchscreen for entertainment and gaming anywhere. A second display in front of the driver shows various vehicle information, and a third display provides entertainment and controls for rear passengers.

  1. Acceleration 0-100 km/h
Long Range 3.2 s
Plaid 2.1 s*
  1. Range
Long Range 652 kilometers
Plaid 628 kilometers
  1. Top Speed
Long Range 250 km/h
Plaid 322 km/h
  1. Drivetrain
Long Range Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive
Plaid Tri Motor All-Wheel Drive

For me there's perhaps some irony seeing that from MiataDan.

Years ago I really enjoyed my Miata. It didn't have the fastest acceleration of its peers, and it didn't have the highest top speed. But it was designed and engineered to be fun to drive.

Not having a 0-60 time under 3 seconds does't make a vehicle boring.

I can perhaps understand there being a benefit to producing such a vehicle in terms of "halo marketing", but in general the fixation on acceleration and speed seems to me to be ill-placed.

@miatadan has also owned numerous Mustangs, I recently learned, so he's not just about (automotive) finesse.

" Not having a 0-60 time under 3 seconds does't make a vehicle boring " but poor driving dynamics from FWD design, or being designed as Suv/crossover normally means handling will not be the same as a car. I did prefer my Miata's over the Mustang's I had because they were more fun to drive.

It's missing 130 miles of range Elon said it would have. How is that; "just that good?"
That's 25% of its range just forgotten to have been promise in Plaid. Who cares about tenths of seconds to sixty or a car length or two on a drag strip? Plaid Plus was introduced long after the acclaimed 520+ miles so where is Plaids range?

Is 390 "just that good" and has anybody bothered to demonstrate it being achieved? No doubt you can loose your license in less than 1.5 seconds - 4 seconds on most public streets/highways depending on the speed limit but can you make it 390 miles down that highway at 70MPH?

. . .
Then buy a Leaf and we'll both be happy. There is no requirement that what you 'want' matches Tesla specs. You won't be buying one and that is a good thing. Those who appreciate the vehicle will.
