CA is recognized as the most competitive auto market in the world. And it is the the largest market in one of the world's largest markets.
In 2019 the Tesla Model 3 out sold the Honda Accord and the Toyota Corolla in the state. I've questioned if it also outsold Camry, but it was very close. It could be that Tesla simply doesn't want to awaken Toyota, but I also don't think Toyota is accurately reporting its Camry sales but Model 3 sold about as many units in CA as the Toyota Camry which sells for considerably less up front but costs more over all. Model 3 also didn't outsell the compact economy Honda Civic either. But while the Model 3 overall will have costs lower than a civic the purchase price again is still substantially higher. But the Model 3 is also a much better vehicle than either the Civic or the Camry. Say it again, its flat out better than either of those vehicles. But people tend to equate Model 3 with Tesla as a luxury brand and may not know how affordable they are and how much more convenient they are. Model 3 is now selling for less than the average cost of a vehicle in the US- an average vehicle cost that has been rapidly inflated by the failing Big 3.
Model 3 outsold all of its category competitors in the state from Mercedes, BMW and Toyota (Lexus) combined- think you could thrown in Audi too. It beat these ICE cars the way Model S and Model X beat them globally at the top of the market- and still does. People spent more on Model 3 in CA than any other car including Camry and Civic. And Model 3 beat Ford F150 in CA in sales.
This is what you call success. This is hard success never equaled by any other company. Ford went into business in 1903 in mid June, 100 years and 2 weeks later Tesla came into being. Tesla is a company for the 2000s and Ford and all the ICE makers are truly relics from the 1900s. They are the equivalent of the horse carriage and buggy makers of the early 1900s. They are like addicted, broke, washed up, in debt old buggy makers. Imagine if Ford and IBM and Standard Oil-Exxon/Mobile had all been one from the start. That is Tesla. But make it even better where Tesla isn't the target of a monopolistic oligopoly break up, rather its the preferred tool to destroy an oligopic petrol malignancy and save humanity from certain increasing misery or its own destruction. The competition is like people who are trying to sell cigarettes to children, really much worse they feel entitled to profit from poisoning, polluting, hocking the future and causing unnecessary wars and putting the world at serious risk of a premature end for doing these things. The competition is part of an obvious criminal enterprise that feels it needs to be rewarded constantly and increasingly for its ever increasing crimes lies. For instance if natural gas (new but even old) sells anywhere in the world its a fraud and crime because its not cost competitive and never will be again and only adds instability and cost instability along with environmental, social and political harm. It just so easy to see what a good use of money is with Tesla and so easy to see that petrol long ago became a criminal obsolete cult. Investing in petrol which can never compete on cost any more not even on subsidized costs and will never ever compete again marks someone as stupid, cynical and a liar.
Look at the competitions dumb attacks. Guy who is a software engineer at a silicon valley competitor complains 7x or so that when he drives past a k-rail that his Tesla veers towards the k-rail. Then he plays a video game on that competitors product and while doing so drives into that k-rail where the safety device on the k-rail conspicuously is missing and where he supposedly hits it in a way where it kills him (not minimizing the tragedy) but also manages to sheer the car in half-(never seen that before conspicuous) and the captured propaganda board paid off by petrol competitors puts out a bunch of FUD saying the Tesla didn't stop and air bags and seat belt development needs to be slowed down because it is too risky too risky for the rip of artists that pay it off. Or there will be a Navigant study paid for by SoCal Gas- as if Navigant with its paid lying was an authority or an honest survey compiler. Or they trick a dated Tesla with old hardware from a vendor Tesla abandoned running old software by graffiti on a traffic sign as if that couldn't trick a human. They don't tell you that machines are now better at using sight to distinguish cat and dog breeds than humans, they never contextualize. The competition has to use the equivalent of Rohypnol to move it fatally broken products.
Any one see the cute little 1/3-1/2 scale model Cybertruck beat the F150 in a tug? This was like a toy and it beat the F150. It only weighted a little over 1000lbs and they had to load it down with an additional 1500lbs, making it about half the weight of a F150 to win but win it did and with half the weight. Some said the F150 was still rear wheel drive. Well even with rear wheel drive it still have about he same weight over its rear axles as the toy had total weight and it surely had more driven tire patch total and still lost.
