Switching to glide...

Ok, so now everyone has a bad 70s tune in your head.

Switching into drive. Sometimes I hop in, push start, twist lever to drive and drive away. Sometimes it doesn't switch into drive. Is there a sequence I have to follow?
 
If it's going to work I know I need my foot on the brake but sometimes when my foot is upon the brake it does not shift into drive.

When that happens, do you just leave your foot on the brake and keep trying to shift into Drive until the I5 finally (after how many tries?) indicates it's in Drive? If so, then your I5 has a problem.
