I don’t use Spotify, but like all CarPlay apps, it streams via the connected device; CarPlay is just the UI that integrates all the user apps with the car’s media system — ie. if you don’t have Spotify on your phone, it won’t be on the car’s display. Essentially, to make any decent use of streaming services with CarPlay, you need a large enough data plan with your mobile carrier.

That's not actually an accurate description of CarPlay (or Android Auto). All that the car Infotainment system is doing is providing a display area for video that is coming out of the phone. All the computing is done in the phone.
Pretty much exactly what I said, but OK.

Hey there! Thanks a bunch for the inquiry! The Spotify integration on the 2022 head unit is pretty slick. It primarily operates like your Google Home, where your phone acts as a remote, and the MINI connected services take care of the data streaming. So, no worries about chewing up your phone's data! Voice search and browsing through the head unit are smooth as well. It's like having your Spotify Pro app seamlessly sync with your ride. Enjoy the tunes on the go!

Hi there! Many thanks for your question! The 2022 head unit has an extremely well-integrated Spotify system. In essence, it functions similarly to a Google Home, with your phone serving as a remote control and the MINI linked services handling the data streaming. So don't worry about using up all of the data on your phone! Additionally seamless are voice search and head unit browsing. It resembles having your vehicle and the Spotify Pro app sync without any problems. Savor the music while on the run!
