SE and Car wash

In our area they use alot of road salt in the winter. I routinely run my Countryman through the car wash. When you enter the car wash bay there is an undercarrage wash that shoots water from underneath. This may sound like a stupid question - will running my SE through the car wash with the undercarrage wash be an issue?

It will be fine as there are underbody panels per Savagegeese. However, if you follow Munro Live, viewers are very unhappy with the exposed HV wires because (didn't disclose they removed the underbody panels).

No worries on undercarriage spray, but I always skip it because it's pretty unnecessary for the SE. Not a lot of nooks and crannies underneath. My winter wash routine is always basic wash to get the road salt and grime off, but skip all the add-ons. And I really avoid the wheel scrubbing.

So, are there any exposed high voltage wires that might be subject to corrosion, as seems to be the case with the RAV4? (An $8k repair.)

Technically yes the HV wires are slightly exposed, but it's shingled with the skid plate. RAV4 Prime (and hybrid) cablegate occurs because there is water ingress through the connector. See RAV4 prime corrosion picture below.

I have a cool rolling undercarriage sprayer attachment for my pressure washer from Adam’s Polishes. They recommend a gas pressure washer up to 3000 psi, I think that’s totally unnecessary and it works perfectly well with my 1800 psi electric washer; I don’t need it chewing up the belly pans or jet blasting off the Cosmoline, I just want it to hose of the salt and guck during the winter. I also turn on the hot water when I do this, and I speak softly in Japanese to my car. ;)

Interesting! I did not realize that Munro removed panels prior to filming. Always thought that was so strange they were exposed like that. Since mine (2022) wasn't like that I assumed Mini made a change somewhere along the way...

I'm still unhappy that Munro, who likes to talk about how BMW leaned on him to help create their new MINI, couldn't be bothered to even take the SE around the block in that report. He was too busy supervising the remodeling of his home and left the review to his minions and they did a very haphazard job--like not making it clear they'd stripped off the battery-protection panel.

I'm more unhappy on the Munro wrap up when he discussed doubling the mileage on the i3 when they first tore down the 60Ah version and didn't compare the range to the 94Ah and 120Ah ones.

60Ah i3 BEV - 81 miles (NCM 333)
94Ah i3 BEV - 114 miles (NCM 333)
94Ah i3s BEV - 107 miles (NCM 333)
120Ah i3 & i3s BEV - 153 miles (NCM 622)

While it's not exactly doubling range, 153 EPA miles is plenty! The SE has been an excellent alternative to the i3s and I have no regrets.
